Benga and Skream were the first to put it on the map around 2006ish in england. a few years later came along Flux Pavillion, Mt Eden Dubstep, etc. And they came around 2007-2009ish making dubstep known internationally but not a relevant genre to everybody. And 2010 sonny and a whole bunch of artists came along and really put dubstep on the map everywhere by 2011. Skrillex doing most of it with cinema, in for the kill remix, scary monsters and nice sprites, etc.

So many kids don't even know where Sonny Moore came from. I've been following him since 'Ride the Wings of Pestilence'. I was fortunate enough to see him twice; once live in FFTL and then once again, a few years later, during his his solo electronica years. You know.. his copaface and gypsyhook days? I have a signed gypsyhook ep and a signed copy of 'Heroine' somewhere in my mom's garage. This is when he was making remixes for various metal bands like Bring me the Horizon and Horse the Band, to name just two. Then came Scary Monsters and nice sprites, an album that is the culmination of all his prior experience gained throughout his career. I really like what he did with this song, it brought back a little nostalgia. Although, I don't care too much for his new music, I do admire him as an overall talented musician.

It was weird seeing him go from fftl to his electronica at first, especially when all I listened to was metalcore/screamo or "post"- whatever genre they call it now. I was like 14-16 at that time, and I can say his really earlier work greatly influenced the direction of music I listened to and even played a small part in me taking up electronic music myself. 10 years later and I now primarily listen to dark techno and more experimental electronic pieces. But not before I went through a very short brostep phase lol

I remember when he was doing dubstep and sung on a 12th Planet song and I was like I'd kill for this voice back in FFTL. So glad it happened. Sonny's EDM music was great I thought Recess was a fantastic album and he's released some absolute anthems for dubstep fans, but this voice is too good to not use.

Jay Burris Wayne Huh? That tells me that you haven't really listened to a lot of his stuff from the beginning until now. He definitely hasn't changed. He has a formula that he sticks with. I actually spoke with him about exactly that, a few weeks ago. He's a very consistent producer and has a very specific sound/style. It's been there from the start. He has produced some bands with more pop influence lately. But the band's do what they want to do. Go listen to some old stuff from him. The Used, City Sleeps, Story of the Year, Atreyu, literally everything he does. He has always done the same thing. So he hasn't changed. Maybe he's produced for some bands and you've heard a change in their sound because of it. But it's not Feldy changing as a producer. That's for sure. I'm a producer myself and John is a big reason for that. I own almost every record he's produced. So I'd say I have a pretty good idea of his production given that along with speaking with him on several occasions.

Jay Burris Wayne Yeah man, all of his work with The Used is amazing. This War is Ours was also amazing. If you listen to those records, you will find the exact same production style. Just different songs. Obviously each record, song, and band will change the sound. But he really isn't doing anything more than what he's always done. That's not my opinion. It's just a fact. The records you named still have the Exact same production on them. All of the different ambience you hear in the background. The vocal layering style. I'm just not understanding why you think he's changed and is more poppy now. Can you give me some examples of new things you think he's added that make his stuff sound too pop like?

Jayke Smith I heard the singer that from first to last got, after Sonny, used the money people sent from preorders and then ran off. Sonny came back to protect his baby's name. Honestly..i think the song is a hate/love song to his band in views of seeing her as a woman.
