Im not even a Nats fan , but gotta say in my eyes hes a legend . When healthy he can compete with the best of em . That postseason he had was outrageous. He deserves all the respect n he definitely has my respect. Unfortunately lot's of athletes as they age competing at high levels injuries occur, n its unfortunate that this is how his career will most likely end . Im sure he doesnt enjoy being injured n talked about in a negative way . If it was up to him n healthy im sure he would love to play n im sure he would still put respectful no numbers.

Honestly, injuries aside Straus is till my favorite pitcher all time. That championship run literally motivated my last 4 years straight lol. Wish he would still come back for at least one solid season before its all said and done. He was worth the crippling contract. #GONATS!!!

I’m not a Nationals fan, however I remember being in 5th grade watching his debut and he was electric… for me I think he had a good career but I feel like it’s hard to not go, what if? What if he wasn’t injured so often? I think he would be in the discussion with Kershaw as the best pitcher of the 2010s, but I guess we’ll never know

As someone who has the same nerve disorder/damage, I feel for him as I am not able to do the things that we so easy for me before. Insurance will pay most (if not all of that money), so the biggest loss for the Nationals and fans should be what Strasburg has brought to the game of baseball. I do not fault him for his body failing him, just like what happened with Prince Fielder and his neck. Some of these fans today would blame Lou Gehrig for having ALS and robbing the Yankees of a player.

Im dealing with a C3-6 vertebrae impingement in my neck for the last 3 years, so i definitely feel his pain. It sucks being 28 and unable to do what i used to be able to. I had to give up playing ball because of it as well

Context and perspective matters, and when you consider that he was paid 140 million more than his opt out (he opted out with 4 years and 100 mil left )then 140 M dollar bonus to the guy who brought your team its first Championships in Americas oldest organized sport is pretty impressive. Honestly every penny they paid Corbin and Him since 2019 has been earned in that post season alone and the jump in the Value of the team in that window reflects that. How many sports shows keep sticking the lazy narrative.

Hes a legend, and the 2019 Post season got me back into baseball. He defeated the Whack Astros and saved baseball from handing another trophy to a team accused of cheating. MLB should pay him 200 million for that alone. Not his fault the organization said yes to the deal but truth be told if they hadn’t someone else would have for the reigning WS MVP.

Last year Stras came to Fredericksburg VA to pitch for his rehab assignment. They sold out that game. My sister went and she said the entire stadium got up and left after he left the game

What amazes me is the Nationals, knowing Strausberg’s injury history, did not pay the extra money to trigger the clause in the contract for it to be 100% insurable in the event of injury. Instead it’s 0% insured & they are out the whole amount.

To be fair there were many that his mechanics would cause him injury problems the inverted w and his arm and upper body late which the tension caused additional velocity but put too much stress on arm and elbow. So being great when healthy was what some thought he would be. The aspect of mechanics sometimes is overlooked in evaluation and pitchers who became phenons very quickly prior too had questionable mechanics as too throw well with good mechanics takes longer to develop.

I'll be the first to admit i was wrong about Strasburg. I recall circa 2011-12 joking that if people thought Strasburg would be a dominant starter going forward after his recovery from TJ, I'd like to sell them beach front timeshares in Arizona. But nothing lasts forever. I'm a Mariners fan and saw the sad decline of Felix Hernandez over a period of less than a decade after his 05 debut when the sky was the limit.

To me he was a guy who had a lot of hype and didn't really live up to it outside of 2019. He'll always be connected to Dustin Ackley, who the Mariners drafted right after. Now that guy was a bust, if we're talking failure.

I'm a Mariners fan and remember drafting Ackley. Hindsight is 20/20 and all. But when I saw highlights of him in the minors, I began to worry. He didn't seem to have that flow you'd like to see in a professional. I compared him to an actor playing a Baseball player. He'll have moments, but would never survive a full season. It's one of the reasons why I don't care for college ball. Call Professionals whatever you want, but they are the best in the world. Fun fact, his UNC teammate Kyle Seager, drafted #3 for the Mariners in 09, became the real thing and first Domestic Draft prospect for the M's since Alex Rodriguez to turn into a good hitter.

In 2019, the nats are deciding on whether to re sign rendon or strasburg, but who knows the correct answer turned out to be signing neither😂 With this massive contract along with corbin’s , I’m sure the nats will not make postseason until at least Strasburg’s tenure ended because they eat up the majority of cap space and provide less flexibility for signing big names. They could have let soto prove himself to be much worthy than the contract he rejected, and offer him a larger contract to keep him as a staple. However, they immediately put a generational talent in him on the trade block for a haul of unproven prospects instead. Even if they had done so, they could have got rid of corbin’s hefty contract in the deal but choose to include another all star player in Josh bell because they want the haul to be bigger and better Sports owners in DC are good at being shit, giving out shitty deals and make shitty trades. The nats and capitals are really lucky they at least won a championship before the downward spiral

Josh Bell wasn't going to resign with the Nats. The team was horrible. Also there is no such thing as cap space in baseball. The team can spend as much as the owner wants to. There is a luxury tax & the Nationals are one of the few teams that have ever gone into the luxury tax (since 2004 only 9 teams have paid the luxury tax).

How on earth can it be “robbing” when a team offered them the contract? Robbing means the perpetrator did something illegal. This is an incredibly stupid way to approach this situation. Yes, he hasn’t come close to living up to his deal, but he didn’t gain that money by any illegal or immoral means. It’s a terrible contract, obviously he isn’t worth it, but to use language like “rob” is insanely idiotic, especially when it’s due to things he has no control over.

Long, giant contracts have been pretty much always a mistake. The only one I can think of that doesn't seem that way right now is Judge, but of course only time will tell. I just want him to be a Yankee lifer regardless of what happens.

Since day1, the Mets have said they will win now, but will not trade away their top farm capital. Last year the Mets fans whined loudly when they didn't sign a good quality power bat. But they wouldn't Trade their big 4. And I guarentee teams were asking for them. The Mets are still suffering from the hangover of one of the most dysfunctional ownership groups in baseball history. The Wilpons ruined this franchise. Cohen is trying to bridge the gap from the mess he inherited to a healthy productive farm system. And he is throwing millions at it in hopes of getting a good mix. This year? Not so good. But I haven't seen anything, ANYTHING, that says they are not true to their course. They are doing exactly what they said they were giing to do from jump street. This is a mess. And it is not an easy fix. Met fans are screaming and coming up with anything that sounds like it might work. Thinking that the Mets have obviously not considered it. Bring up Baty. 659 OPS. Buck hates Vientos. 469 OPS. Eppler didn't do enough in the off season. He signed Verlander, Senga, Quintana, Robertson. What else must they do? This seasons a bummer. I grew op in NJ and was 10 in 1969. My 1st game was Seavers 13th. I have seen this before. And its not fun. But I have not lost faith. This is not the Wilpons. I'll tell you a secret.
