Two wrongs never make a right. And yes, it is important to bring up the religion of the man concerned because he was lynched primarily on that account. It is important to really question and introspect as to why so many Muslim men have been lynched by these mobs in the last few years. If your main defence is that the so-called secularists kept quiet about the violence perpetrated by the minority community, then as someone who opposes that brand of politics, is it not logical that you don't do the same? Otherwise, how are the 'true secularists' different from the pseudo ones? Also, branding opponents with adjectives like pakistani agent etc is the most cowardly thing to do, for that requires no intellectual effort. I am fairly sure that we are smarter than that.

Respected Mr. Shekar Gupta, I disagree with your contention that the Bahujan Samaj movement, as visualized by Kanshi Ram has evaporated. If anything, it has been taken forward by Narendra Modi and the BJP. The current BJP is not the Bania party it started with - it is basically a Bahujan party that also gets strong backing of Kshatriyas, Brahmins and Banias. The nature and structure of the party has completely changed since 2012. Almost all the old guard who were from the upper castes have given way to Dalit, Tribals and OBC. Bahujan Samaj climbed a new peak this elections. Mayawathi understands that her political role is almost over. She may have some nuisance value now. That will go away in the near future. Narendra Modi and Amit Shah are the actual inheritors of Kanshi Ram's political legacy - in the same manner that Anant Kumar and Yedyurappa took over Ramakrishna Hegde's legacy in Karnataka after his death.

Somehow I really hate the phrase "vote transfer" or "transferable votes". You and Pranoy (sometimes very excitedly while discussing how anti bjp votes are staked up) used that phrase quite a lot whenever there is a discussion on UP politics. It kind of reduced the voters, particularly dalits and muslims, to mere commodities. The sad frustrating truth is that that phrase is perfect in how it is used in the context of UP politics by you or Pranoy or any other, because SP and Mayawati has reduced those two voter groups to mere commodities they own. I feel it is demeaning to those voters even if they have allowed themseves to be used. So, for the sake of human ethics (if not for media ethics) please don't use it in future.
