Man he actually seemed really intelligent and collected. He reminds me of my own transformation behind bars where i cracked open my first college textbook as well. I had two more rodeos before i finally closed a twelve year sentence but i never gave up on myself. graduated, overcame a drug addiction, and now, i'm working hard on owning a home and setting up a nest egg for a retirement twenty years in the future. good luck kid.

So the problem in him is corrected and once he's paid his debt to society it should be over, right? He bit the bullet and cut his loses. why then aren't there laws to protect against felon discrimination? I think the rate of recidivism would lower if felons had improved employment opportunities, even if only screened and psychologist approved felons were afforded the protection. Of course, anyone of us can find ourselves working an overnight job at Walmart. But that type of job is unfulfilling in the long run. Also, We don't have the same social structure as most western nations do. They can be discriminated against, get a job at Walmart and be ok. Americans can't, we have to worry about healthcare, an extremely expensive rental system etc. So we kind of rely on the prospect of someday getting a job that offers medical or pays enough to buy it. Walmart type jobs rarely give benefits and even if they do, there's still the matter of affording rent and everything else that's needed for a minimal standard of living. If a study was performed on a prison system to see if improved employment prospects lowered recidivism, and it yielded positive results then it would be a moral and ethical matter for society to address properly, because it would clearly show that recidivism is beyond an individual's control. Punishing people for stuff that's not their fault is wrong, regardless of a person's past.

I followed this story when it happened and have always thought Colt was, for the most part a good kid. I am happy that the transition from the juvenile prison to the adult one seems to have been good for him. I am still very mindful however that he not only murdered his stepfather but he involved his friends as well. He has ruined a lot of lives and this must always be considered when decisions are made. 25 years is a long time, so all in all the American Judicial System has got this one Spot on. Good luck Colt, my deepest condolences and respect to the people who will forever be damaged by his hand.

Man, when I first watched this story, I couldn't believe that two 12 year olds, and a 15 year old could do something like that, but after watching this, I really hope dude gets a second chance. People make terrible decisions sometimes, mistakes happen, and out of anybody, this guy seems to know that he's done wrong, and has a good idea of what he needs to do to make his situation a better one. Mad respect to you man. Seriously, because that kind of thing happens rarely. Also, watching the story about the two 10 year olds brutally killing a 2 year old in the UK, made me think that this kids crime may not have been that bad after all. If a grown ass man is beating on you, and your mom, do what you gotta do. It all depends on the reason, but the only person that'll ever know why he made that decision, is him.

That case in the UK I know quite well. James Bulger was very very very brutally murdered by those two sobs and they were sent to a children's home from the ages of ten and eighteen. They were released and given lifelong anonymity. One of them has been jailed on multiple occasions and is currently denied parole for child abuse images. That British system is an absolute joke.

That's the thing... a young teenager changes sooo much on a short period of time. After some years they are not the same anymore, when you become adult even your brain isn't the same anymore. That's why it's so cruel to convict young criminal offenders as an adult and for such long periods of time. It doesnt make sense.

Sure, he's a murderer. I dont deny that, it is a terrible, terrible crime that impacts many lives and sure, even a young guy who commits murder needs to undergo a punnishment. But I dont believe putting a person in jail and throw away the key is such a great solution. Maybe you can start with strict gun laws, it makes murdering less easy. When canada and australia made their gun laws more strict, the numbers went down immediatly with 30 to 65%. In the UK, police dont even wear guns, can you imagine that? In my country there are very strict gun laws and it pays, not once there was a school shooting, not once! I know its a difficult issue, but it does work, the statistics dont lie.

I just don't see how giving a 15 year old kid 25 years is helping the situation. 10 years was probably max time for a child. if they can say for 1 second his brain was fully developed and understood fully what he was doing, they're out of their mind. he's definitely not a career criminal. his step dad shouldn't have lost his life for any reason but we need to take into consideration he was murdered by a child. 25 years is just too much in my opinion.

I'm familiar with this case and I feel he has a good chance on making it when he gets out. He acted on an emotion that he has never revealed why he did what he did but I am sure something drove him to do it. The guns should have never been left unlocked and loaded and in his reach. He was young and impulsive. I feel for his victims family and their loss. Hopefully someday they have closure and he is able to tell them the real reason he acted on this impulse. I've watched many documentaries on child killers and he's very different than the others. He isn't mentally disturbed or an angry person so it only makes sense that he did it for a particular reason. I know from another interview when he was younger he said several times that there were things going on that no one else knew about so I think that's a clue to why it happened but it's unfortunate that he couldn't have brought it to the attention of a counselor at school or someone outside the house things could have been so different for him but I have a feeling him and his mother were being abused so if he left he knew she would be left there to deal on her own. Anyway I see a lot of potential in him and I hope he makes it in life. He's saying prison was a good thing for him and I'm sure that's his way of reassuring himself that he's in a good spot for now and is a coping mechanism which is a good sign that he will be able to adapt to the free world when he gets out.

At the same point, he is not remorseful, hates losing his freedom and being told what to do when and having no choices. He is lucky compared to most murderers, because they may have been older, they dont get out a lot earlier, most murderers do more than 30 years, some are in for life. He also owes a ton of people money because he is ripping people off with his "home renovation" business. He doesn't have any actual training, he just fucks up people's houses because they feel bad for him so they give him work, and he doesn't pay the people that he works with, either.

At least he has received positive experiences and education. It should be like this if you have to imprison children. However, I would really like to know how on earth such young kids even got their hands on guns in the first place? It really is a sorry excuse for a "society".
@paulschalkham49407 жыл бұрын
CECI CEO it's pretty simple if you have a parent with a gun. I'm 17 and my gun is 5 feet away right now. Besides you can get illegal guns easily in any city. It's the person who uses the gun. I bet even if it hadn't been a gun it would've been a knife.

Sometimes peak experiences can be life-transforming, even if the experience itself is horrible. I can't think of many things more horrible than that of killing one's parent. Colt has seemingly taken this horrible life event and transformed it into something positive. He said it himself...if this had never happened, he might not be in prison but he would probably be a slacker working a dead-end job with no real self- and certainly no Self- consciousness.
@josephatnip23986 жыл бұрын
You know if that kid would have been smart enough to tell the police that his father or stepfather or whatever molested him he probably never would have seen the inside of a prison
@blvckdoll6 жыл бұрын
Joseph Atnip guess he felt like if he didn’t kill his father, the abuse would’ve continued. You’d be surprised but some child service people and cops are dumb and ignore the issue and send the kids right back to their parents. I wish I could find the links of when that actually happened to a child that was tortured to death, and send em to you...

Totally agree Gibran. greenMitsi. There's nothing anywhere that says he was molesting him. Colt has never accused him of anything sexual.. at all. You're being a troll
@1greenMitsi6 жыл бұрын
so anyone that points out an old overweight white male with facial hair is most probably a paedo is a troll? I think the statistics are on my side; seriously what do you think colt's silence is all about?
@kenbrunet61206 жыл бұрын
I really hope there's more to your logic then that. I actually went searching for the reasons he hated his stepfather before i made that comment. If you did too, and found allegations of sexual abuse then that's what you should have lead with. I found 2 interviews where he mentions all the reasons he hated him. Not once does he mention anything about being molested. By your court of public opinion logic, every step parent who doesn't get along with their step child is molesting them because they're "being silent" and statistics are on your side...
@1greenMitsi6 жыл бұрын
how many kids have ever shot a parent for being late to pick them up from soccer practice? - how many have shot a parent because they were grounded? because they didnt get the flavor they wanted from baskin robbins? stop looking for answers elsewhere and use your head, read between the lines. This is a 15 yr old kid shooting a person in cold blood, its for no random reason that he did it without a motive which he then refuses to disclose.
@kenbrunet61206 жыл бұрын
Exactly!! How many kids have ever shot anyone. So you don't get to blame the parent automatically. It's very possible that he is just that messed up that he shot him out of hate. He's not the first psycho kid to have a violent reaction. There have been other murderous kids. Did you even read why he hated his stepdad?? it wasn't cause he said no for a treat or some other lame thing. He hated the guy for a long time. even Told his mom he'd do something if she didn't stop him. Nothing about any sexual deviance. Anywhere. YOU don't get to decide what his reasons were based on conjecture and imagination.

None of you people have any evidence whatsoever for the hateful slurs you are throwing around! Kids have killed their parents for all kinds of reasons, like they wanted their money, or they wanted the house, or they wanted to do whatever they wanted without parents telling them what to do.

@millicentbystander52066 жыл бұрын
Only HIM, you're only speculating, you're saying, "The step-dad was doing something terrible to them because they never would have killed him otherwise." But kids as young as these HAVE killed without much or ANY provocation. What about the two 10-year-olds who killed a toddler in the UK? What about the young teenage boys who killed their grandmother with an axe to steal her money (which they spent on pizza and pot)? Look, maybe the step-dad WAS abusing them, but without any evidence at all, it's totally wrong to jump to that conclusion.
