Because monsters do not exist and no one person is ALL evil. What they have done is unforgivable but it does not mean that they do not have any Good sides in them as well. Hard to comprehend since many of us want to put individuals in a box with a lable on it. People are more complex than that. Even those Who do unspeakable things. Reflect on that. More should in my opinion.

Then if you're so enlightened... please tell us dumb Americans what else it could be? What does a guy in prison (in the US), who will never see the light of day again, and will likely be killed by the state on a gurney at some point, have to offer a woman (in the UK)? Answer: Absolutely nothing. Like I said.. .this is all about insecure women and men behind bars who take advantage of them. Trust me, I've seen this a BUNCH of times... it's usually a woman who for whatever reason (usually self esteem issues) can't get a man on the outside, but wants to tell her friends "she has a man".... easy targets are these guys. They will give her 100% attention (so long as she gives them money), tell her how wonderful she is, how pretty she is, etc... despite the fact it's quite possible she will never even hold hands with him. Now, she can tell her friends she "has a man"... forget the fact he is in prison and she's never so much as kissed him (most death row visits in Indiana are no contact).

If you ever doubt your strength I have a story for you, During world war 2 my grandfather was taken prisoner of war by the Russians in the battle of Berlin, they were so close to capturing Moscow and he survived the entire retreat all the way back to Berlin. He was captured during the battle of Berlin. As a good German soldier surrendering was never an option for him, but it caught him by surprise so it was his only option. After having survived the invasion of Poland, France and the north Africa campaign and even the invasion of the Soviet Union (operation Barbarossa) he ended up in Berlin He even survived the Siberian prisoner of war camp and walked all the way home from the freezing cold of Siberia to Berlin. A journey that most men in this modern world won't even survive. He spend the remainder of his life being one of the most gentle men I have ever met. He raised me, and taught me respect and love and courage, and he always took great care of me, Hans you were the best grandad/father/best friend I could've ever wished for

I've been asking myself that same question for a very long time. You never know what's on other person's mind, even someone close to you. Most of these dudes were not born like that. Something made them that way. You think 90% of people who saw combat and killed ever thought they would be capable of taking a life? Probably not. Than it became just every day thing to them. PTSD during war or childhood. Guys were abused as kids probably also think violence is normal. Or course there is mental health, drugs, broken families, influence by older "role models" etc... There is a saying back in the old country - another man's soul is like a dark room. You never know what in it. P.S I'm not defending murderers and sadists or anything. They did the crime and have to receive punishment.

I struggle to believe anyone in this situation could be properly rehabilitated. Our prison system in the US is far from perfect. It looks like everyone is mostly trying to make the best of what they get. I don't want these people wandering the streets as they were when they committed their crime, but I really don't think we're doing anything for them to change them for the better. So many ex cons out of prison make an immediate attempt to get back in because life outside is so hard when you've been in for years or decades.

It’s hard not to be empathetic if you go into a prison and see how the inmates actually live and think. There will always be a subset of life convicts that view themselves as warriors for their gang or commit heinous crimes. However, most inmates either were or are mentally stunted. A lot of them are nothing but remorseful for their actions and a lot of them have taken responsibility. Whatever you’ve done, being relegated to a box and having no meaningful relationships for the rest of your lives is a waste. I’m not saying there is a solution, but it is a waste, most of these guys get that. The saddest part for me is the ones that still have the mental capacity of a kid. Those dudes are scary because they are impulsive like children, too.
@0044Cadi6 жыл бұрын
He was great, though. Soft spoken and not accusatory or rude, but still honest and blatant about how he felt. @bonze93475 жыл бұрын
@Prairiedoggen Actually I don't think he was trying to do that. He just portrayed them as human beings, which they still are, no matter what they did. I think this way the documentary achieves letting you think about your own life and how one wrong decision can destroy your whole life. In the usual prison documentaries where they portray prisoners as animals you are always let to think that they are kind of a different species. But at the end of the day, each one of us is capable of doing horrendous things. It's just in the human nature. In some of us more than in others, but at the end of the day it's still a human thing to do stuff like this. Like it or not.
@bonze93475 жыл бұрын
@Prairiedoggen I totally agree with you on the last part! I do in no way feel sorry for these guys. They deserve to rot and die in prison. My point is, the kind of crimes these guys committed are "human" and not "animalistic". Nowadays we are trying to clean our conscience in saying this behaviour is animalistic. But if you take a look at the history of mankind you'll see that horrible things done by humans are more of the norm than an abnormality. Only in the last, say, 70 years its been pretty peaceful and humans behaving "human". The best conclusion to this is probably that all humans are animals at the end of the day. It's just the circumstances you are brought up in or live in that let the inner animal out.

guys a good interviewer. most of them wouldnt have the balls to ask how a person killed someone but this guy does it in a tone to where it sounds like hes not asking a huge question.

For anybody who's interested: Frederick Baer, the guy with long hair, was re-sentenced to life in prison a month ago. He's not going to be executed.

Thanks. I have seen this doc a few times and checked if he had been executed yet. Got his sentence changed because the original jury did not consider mitigating circumstances enough.

Too bad to hear that, if he was innocent they would of exonerated him. They knew he was guilty and decided life in prison was better for whatever reason

Sir Trevor McDonald is such a distinguished gent. He's respectful, caring and careful with each inmate he interviews. I really admire his calm and professional demeanor.

Even then I kind of feel bad, mainly because one wrong decision under the influence of something will affect them for the rest of their lives. And the fact they admit it and understand what they did and how some of them are genuinely disturbed by what they did is upsetting in a way even if they deserved it :/

The use of therapy cats is pure genius, surely the most cost effective way of keeping inmates from boiling over. Some would say they don't deserve it but all people deserve some humanity

Tércio Filho they dont deserve compassion if its a pedophile or rapist, child killer, etc. They forfeit their life by ruining others.

I can't even imagine the emotional pain that man goes through when he has to put down a person he spends so much time getting to know. It would haunt me.

You know what, after watching this documentary, i’ve realized that while these men are wasting their lives inside metal bars, that there are also people like me who waste their while staring at the bluest sky that these inmates will never get to see... I think I’ll try to appreciate the sky a bit more.
