Kiwi's win was the daddy of them all. But close second for me is Rain Lover. Won by 12 lengths in 68 with a race record, won in 69 under a cruel cruel weight. Basically handicapped out of the race and still won.

Kiwi had to do a Fred Astaire as he side stepped the horses in front of him to bring it home. The horses in front only had to run forward, that's why it's such a legendary run.

I don't think it was Jimmy but now that you mention it, it might have been his brother Curly since I seem to remember the name Cassidy being mentioned on the news that night. It was over 40 years ago though. I guess @Jimmy911ism and I will never know for sure since both of us obviously have an extra chromosome.

VE win last year was alright, and great for the legend, but it was a somewhat weak field due to the covid restrictions. The odds were comical though

And it showed. I backed VE anyway (as seen on multiple other youtube vids prior to the race)..if you think it was a strong field then perhaps you are new to the game. Edit: just seen other comments from you, saying Winx is the greatest ever horse to run on turf. Pleasssse. Edit: And yes I am Australian.

@@cbscbs9090 it's gotten a lot weaker... realistically there is not a single horse that doesn't have some hope... last year it was a race of 2 halves... the first 10 in the weights... all had a shot... and the rest... who had no hope

Kiwi had an amazing finish, but we really don't place much on it here. Bart's 12th, Gai's first, so many better choices for the number one spot that have some impact on racing.

Prince of Penzance was reeled in and beaten three days before the cup. Then it comes out and wins the cup by sitting close to the front all the way. Then Weir gets outed for his corrupt practices. We'd like to know the absolute truth of that performance.

Not unbeaten in all His races, look no further than the 1931 Melbourne Cup. Though he was amazing top 5 of all time easily, and in my personal opinion, no.2 of all time second to Winx.
