I climbed the Wildcat Mountains on 25 June 2024, a lovely day in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.
Having climbed both of these 4000-footers several times, always from the Pinkham Notch side, this time I decided to come up from the south, on Bog Brook and Wildcat River trails. I had hoped to do a loop up to Carter Notch Hut, then across the Wildcat ridge (climbing Wildcat "A," Wildcat "B," Wildcat "C," Wildcat "D," and Wildcat "E") and then down Wildcat Valley Trail. But even though Wildcat Valley Trail is shown on my GPS map, and I confirmed that there was indeed a ski trail there, in fact this trail, if it exists, is very overgrown. So I doubled back, which led to a very long, but great, day!
In this video I'm showing the lovely view of the pond just below Carter Notch Hut.
