@toeny6 жыл бұрын
"From nothing" yea thats exactly embiids early life. He didn't live any where too rich and special, and didn't live in suffering and financial issues. "From nothing" describes how his life was average and not worth noting for a nab player
@GraalOnlineEra6 жыл бұрын
I grew up in Cameroon, Douala. What you americans need to realize is when we africans say "Safe home with loving parents" it can mean anything from living in a hut eating fufu all day to just barely surviving; It's just an honorable way of saying he's been taken care of. Joel's dad was in the Army and i can most certainly tell you that the Cameroonian army salaries are absolute shit. We just don't complain about our problems and make up excuses. So it's pretty much BS when you say "It's a life many Americans don't experience". Go spend 1 week in Yaounde and you'll be humbled and learn to appreciate everything that comes your way real fucking quick..
@Good7Vibes76 жыл бұрын
GraalOnlineEra stop talking bullshit ,if he was that poor he wouldn't had the opportunities and ressources to even play basketball. I'm also from Cameroon and Joel is from a middle income family so stop talking like he was poor because that's not the case you idiot.

Probably the best Bill Self and Joel Embiid story is the first time Coach Self ever saw Joel play. One of his assistant coaches (I forget which one it was) was out scouting talent at an AAU game or some other camp and saw Joel. He told Self that he needed to come down and see this kid in person to get his impression of whether they should recruit him to go to The University of Kansas. Self and the assistant went to one of Joel's games the next season and just watched him play. During the entire game Self didn't say a word as he watched and the assistant was nervous, because he was thinking that Bill didn't like what he was seeing. After the game was over Bill and the assistant left and still Coach Self hadn't said anything. Finally the assistant asked "So Coach what did you think?" Coach Self's gave only two words in reply. He said "Get him."

This dude was a shock when he took the floor in Allen Fieldhouse. He was supposed to be a project player that would be pretty good by the time his senior year rolled around. Another Sasha Kaun, Greg Ostertag, or even just a Moulaye Niang (sp?) to fill a role and be a big body in practice. Everybody's jaw hit the floor that he already had a defensive presence without having to foul and a soft touch near the rim on the offensive end. I hope he can finally get the health problems cleared up. His game is ideal for the modern NBA, and it's a shame to see him caged.

I agree, he will be future face of MVP, as far as I see his physicality and athleticism. He reminds me of Hakeem the Dream & David Robinson. In this "shooting star" era with downsized, lightweighed ball, this kind of physical guy is precious to the league. The 2 years' of absence might be "planned" by NBA exectives for the future greatness, to his better education & training enviromen. If so, they definitely has intention to cherish the future asset that would earn billions for the league. I hope it works well.
