I did low voltage for over 10yrs and worked for Att etc, got burned out on the traveling. I now own a roofing company but it’s so fkn competitive that I can barely stay above water and it’s just not fulfilling to me because I have to sub a lot of stuff out which sucks cuz your at the mercy of the subs. I’ve thought about switching over to plumbing but I’ve always heard you have to have like 4000 apprenticeship hrs at shit pay to even start etc and it’s hard to even get to journeyman. I’m a business owner so I prefer to, own a business which I do like doing lol. Ima quick study and good with my hands. I know plumbing I would have no issues getting work vs how it is in roofing. I’m 36 with 3 kids and a stay at home wife so I can’t do 15/hr for 4 years lol just to get into it, any help or tips would be much appreciated as far as getting in this industry or if you can suggest a good trade that’s not as competitive as roofing or hvac etc. Thanks

Yeah roofing is a hard game. Ive got a couple friends out here in Ohio who are roofers that say the same thing. You would definitely have to dedicate some time to getting a license if you want to do it properly, but depending on the state your in you might not even have to do an apprenticeship. Where im at I had to work for 5 years before I could get my contractors license. With you wanting to be an owner it might be a bit easier. If I was in your position this is what I would do. Find a friend/befriend somebody who already holds a plumbing license. Start advertising for plumbing jobs and sub them out to this friend for compensation. Once you generate enough leads to keep one person busy then hire an experienced plumber and have him start doing the work. Have your plumbing friend pull your permits when needed and pay him a fee for that. Once you got one guy busy hire another. Rinse and repeat. Now if you dont have access to a friend with a license then you might have to work for somebody for a certain period until you can tale a state test and get your license. Check with your state licensing board and see what the requirements are. Hope this helps

@@PlumberNate Thanks a lot for the reply, man, I really appreciate it. I have also looked into the welding industry because I just have a general interest in it, as well as plumbing and know that I would probably stick with it. Problem is that i was in a bad car accident at 18 and suffer from Amaxophobia so I can't travel a lot. So, I would like to do a "SHOP" of some kind but am unsure of what type of shop that would be profitable, nor can I find a lot of information on this exact topic online either, everyone just wants to teach you how to weld instead of explaining what the better variety is in the industry is lol. I figured maybe welding would be a faster process as far as getting in the industry and starting another business. I can't do mobile welding though, so it would have to be a shop. I know 0 plumbers lol, so I would have to find one. Anyway, I appreciate your content and replies. Thanks dawg.
