Michael Glassman is an amazing designer, teacher, and inspiration. His memory of his mother was sweet and I its incredible all the research he did for the project to fit the needs of community of Yolo.

I loved hearing Michael passionately talk about this garden and the research he did to understand the needs of the people who would use this garden. Michael seems like such a lovely person. May God bless him for this beautiful gift he prepared for this center. BTW, keep showing us more of Michael’s garden designs. They are inspiring.

I loved this so much! My son turned 6 years old today and has a condition called Dravet Syndrome that is a life long diagnosis. He is nonverbal and completely dependent on us. One of his favorite things to do is sit with me while I tend to my plants!

Thank you Michael for your big heart for those with memory issues. I too was the caretaker for my mom and she loved sitting outside on the patio. You are an angel to your community. Thank you for your generosity and kindness.

Thank you Michael for reviewing yet another of your unbelievable projects! At one of the healthcare facilities where I worked there was private funding to provide only a fraction of a healing garden . It helped not only the patients and their caregivers, but also the staff as you have pointed out. It is unfortunate that the lack of healthcare funding exists. I so appreciate your expertise in design and the functionality that exists in the material you use! Thank you Amy for allowing Janey and her dedicated followers to view this wonderful facility!🌸❤️🇨🇦

So many great ideas that we all can incorporate into whatever size space you have. This time spent with you and Michael just warms the heart.

I must admit that I'm becoming a groupie! I visited Van WInden's because of Hulio and now I am planning to visit the Yolo Cafes Therapy Garden. Michael is right, "they are no longer the person they were" but gardening is always helpful. Also, such an excellent idea to replace the sterile waiting room with garden space. I like Michael's plant suggestions and information.

Thanks for this video! My thanks to Michael for the tour and explaining the reasoning behind the design choices. I heard his heart for his mom. My mom has Vascular Dementia and I am her 24/7/365 caregiver. I am also caregiver to a paralyzed veteran. I am working on our landscaping to give momma the joy of flowers and the sounds of nature. She is very sensitive to busyness...she will say that a garden is pretty but then say "but it is too much". Michael's design kept the landscape open and not stuffed with stuff. ❤ Well done! Now, can he fly to the east coast and design my yard!😅

Michael, I had to add another comment, yes caregiver burnout is such a reality. When I return to my own home, after caring for a couple of family members each time, the first thing I do is go to my garden to re- energize ! And I so believe that red is not a soothing colour for gardens. ❤️🇨🇦

I so agree...like Michael's mom...my garden is where my Mom, who has Dementia, loves being in. He is so correct that flowers/gardens bring back memories for those who have challenges or not. The colors, the movement and my huge elephant ears are so important to her well being, as her memories go back to her mother and her gardens.Thank You Janie for another awesome place❤

Thank you Michael (and Janey) for citing Botanical names😊. That's such a help for we who live in other countries. I ❤ my Red Petunias and one Red Rose that is a deep Velvet color! 😮 Also, I wanted to say that my sister and I were full time caregivers to our Mom for the 3 last years of her life, so she could stay at home. I don't regret a moment. But boy, did we both earn our CNA experience! Our Mom couldn't walk after a stroke, no dementia, just physical dependence 😢 on us. It was a huge learning experience both medically and bureaucratically!

I love this idea! My son goes to a day program. He has Aspergers Syndrome and requires his day program. He loves it there, but to have a garden attached...just wonderful. What a great community service. And Michael Glassman you did it again. Knocked it out of the park! I love your vision for Garden Designing. Glad you came back on the show. Janey this is a wonderful video. So many places will be referring to this video when creating outdoor garden areas.

This place has to be a Godsend to so many people. My mother in law would have loved this place, she went so far down the rabbit hole of dementia it was unbelievable. But the one thing she loved til her last breathe, the flowers along her daughters ramp railing. Michael is such a lovely kind hearted man, just think of the legacy his work leaves for generations to come. Thanks for the tour, I'm guessing there's plenty watching that will stop by to help, maybe they'll have a loved one to being along.

You did a great job with the sound, no need to apologise ! I really appreciated this video as I was caregiver for my mother for 10 years. Towards the end, her garden was not suitable for her to get into but that wasn't so much of a problem as she wasn't the gardener, my dad was and my sister and I kept it more or less up to scratch so she could enjoy looking at it. Any trips we could take her out on, we would go to garden centres for the afternoon . In the UK, garden centres normally have a cafe with tea and cake which was a bonus. But what she loved most was to go to the seashore and listen to the waves. The sound of water is so necessary and calming. Great job, Michael ❤

What a great garden and purpose. One of my sisters assists elderly placemen, the other is a gardening senior. I shared this. Let's think about the color red: red light, red stilettos, red light district, red for fire trucks, grabs our attention, excites like a red sports car... do wear red lipstick of you want students to look at you when speaking. Sign, a Special Education Teacher. ❤
