I believe the narrator was only trying to point out the fact that Allah gave Soleiman so much power that he could even control jinns! Even when he died the Jinns were so weak and naive that they were not aware of him being dead, until his staff was eaten by ants or some kinda bug and he lost balance n fell down on the ground, the jinns then found out that he was actually dead. Moral of the story Jinns have no power n are not knowledgeable, they only know the present and past not the future sometimes they cant even understand whats going on in the present time.
