Congratulations on your journey thus far. Your narrative reminded me of a famous Einstein quotation where he says that however difficult your problems are with math, his were still greater. Our skills are relative, pun intended. You're right to say that passion and perhaps unique insights can be as valuable as pure talent. Good luck!

Hello, I just saw your video and I have a few questions 1. What kind of activities did you do in high school that showed your interest in physics? 2. You said during high school you were always dead set on a career in physics. My question is, how did you get introduced to physics and what would you recommend to someone like me in grade 9 trying to get ahead in physics? 3. Whenever you competed in physics competitions, did you ever feel like you were out of your depth and couldn’t compare to those around you? If so, how did you fight against this feeling? I would be much obliged if you were to answer my questions. Thank you for your time and the excellent story!

I'm 23 years old Sri Lankan.. I'm a businessman. I'm educated in the physical science stream in Sri Lanka.. (pure maths,applied maths,chemistry & physics ) I only graduated to A/l's.. Then me and my brother started this business and it went really well.. my a/l results are really good.. I got A passes for Maths & Physics .. C passes for chemistry .. But those days I only want money.. So I did not go to the university and try to improve my business.. Now I have a lot more money than my other students who are in university .. But now I realise money is not important anymore for me.. So I like to go for academics and I really love to go to "Deep Learning" and my purpose is to be a researcher on AI at sillicon valley company.. But I have a problem.. I'm 23 now.. These days I work my A/L and go to university and get a Bsc engineering degree in computer engineering from sri lanka and after that I like to come to the USA and do a phd .. Then I want to join sillicon valley .. Is my age barrier to my future goals??
@debobiswas Жыл бұрын
It's inspiring to learn you're so interested and excited about science and tech. Age is not a barrier at all - even less so in USA. I wholeheartedly support you following your dream. Getting a Master's or PhD in USA is a good pathway to enter the US workforce, including tech jobs in Silicon Valley.

@debobiswas Жыл бұрын
That's awesome, thanks for your comment! You can start on your own by reading books about quantum computing. Quantum Computer Science by David Mermin is a good book for CS people. But of course the best way to learn is through research, so see if you can get some research experience
@debobiswas Жыл бұрын
Studying some physics will definitely help you get a grasp of quantum physics, although I know many CS people with no physics background who work on quantum computing software. You can try taking a few quantum classes and seeing how you like them. Research opportunities are available in many places, including prominent ones in USA, Canada, UK, Austria, Switzerland, Australia, China, Singapore.

Hey! Thanks for sharing. I wanted to know if you could share, that I am currently a Bioinformatics student (Undergrad) and I want to get into Quantum Computing. First of all, I don't really have a professor working in this particular field at my university. Secondly, the majority of work is in understanding DNA, RNA level, and visual bioinformatics. Considering that, I want to work on Quantum Computing and Drug development using it. What I wanted to know was, Can I do my fyp on this considering I'll have no mentorship. And am I on the right track? So please if you could elaborate
@debobiswas11 ай бұрын
I would encourage you to stick to your specialization because 1) it's extremely valuable to become highly skilled and knowledgeable in one area, especially when it's a burgeoning field like bioinformatics; and 2) the usefulness of quantum computing in aiding drug discovery is theorized, but useful applications are far far away. Besides, these useful applications will likely come from collaboration between bioinformaticians and quantum engineers anyways. So you can always help by honing your skills in bioinformatics. You can learn more about QC in the meantime by reading papers and books, and if you're serious you can pursue a master's in quantum information abroad. I really cannot advise on what you should do for your FYP but generally it's better to work on projects where you will have mentoring. Hope that helps!

Remember to have a growth mindset, not a fixed mindset. Growth mindset will take you very far in life. Don't think you're not good in mathematics, tell yourself that you're learning and can get better with practice. Mathematics is a very important tool for physics, so keep practicing.

Back in 2011 Olympiads weren't popular in Bangladesh like they are now. So problem solving was a new concept to me then, because it's different from a homework "exercise". Really I spent a week studying class 10 physics materials, while I was in class 9, within the week that I had. But after that year I spent more time studying and practicing for the Olympiad each year.

If you want to work on quantum computing, the best degrees to pursue are physics, electrical engineering, computer science, or mathematics. Focus on science, not the institution. It's important to build a strong foundation in science, first and foremost, and for that you have to read books and work out problems. I'll plan to a book recommendation video in the future.
