I'm from Summerville as well. Weird. I live in Denmark now though. Joe, I just wanted to say thank you Brother. I doubt you will ever see this or that it will matter much but I just wanted to Express how helpful your videos have been to me. I've never been to prison, did some jail time, maybe 3 months, but nothing major. Anyways, I have a rare disease that causes me an.immense amount of pain throughout my entire body. Sometimes the only thing that helps me is sitting on a heating blanket and watching KZbin. That is why I wanted to reach out and say thank you because watching your videos has gotten me through a lot of very, VERY, tough times. I really appreciate what you do and love the style you present on your channel. If you do happen to read this, and wouldn't mind throwing out some pointers for me. I would like to try to start my own channel, dealing with my rare disease and chronic pain, but I am.struggling hardcore trying to get myself started. So if you happen to want to take someone under your wing, that would be amazing. If not, atleast I am able to express my gratitude to you for all the times you have helped me. I really can't thank you enough and am greatly appreciative. Thank you, Joe, and everyone at APS!

I hate when ppl are soo quick to judge and criticize methadone without knowing what it actually feels like to be hooked on opioids, Yea some are on it for life but that's their choice, it's worked wonders for me, I've tried everything under the sun to get sober n nothing worked like methadone has n I was on it for 3 years n in those 3 years I completely turned my life around like this guy, mad respect to addicts who use this amazing program without abusing it n actually manage to turn their life around n stay sober

One thing I'd like to add for anyone struggling to get clean is. Get yourself a mental health therapist and/or psychiatrist. There are usually reasons we start using drugs and a therapist or psychiatrist can help you work through those issues. Even if you don't think you need it or don't have mental illness, still get one. It can't hurt it can only help. It's also hard to figure out who you are and how to deal with stress and emotions after getting clean. You also tend to have chemical imbalances in your brain after prolonged drug or alcohol use. Those 2 options can help you deal with those issues. I've been clean for 10 years and was an addict for probably close to 10 years. I tried NA and AA. I also tried inpatient and outpatient programs. The thing that I got the most from was mental health therapy. I strongly urge anyone dealing with addiction to seek help from a psychiatrist or mental health therapist. Some programs will work better for some than others but EVERYONE can gain something from therapy. If anyone needs someone to talk to or needs advice please comment and I'll be happy to talk with you either on here, facebook, or over the phone.

This HAS to be the most in depth, dramatic, sad, and outright amazing interview that has EVER been conducted by you, Joe. This weighs heavily in the realm of incarceration and civilian life. Great work, brother. Keep it up! One question I would ask Erik... My dad was addicted to opioid pain medication as well... but he had a condition that allowed that to him. Use and abuse were two different things in his head. He was abusing, but thought he was using. My question is, did you ever have any physical or underlying cause to use that medication?
