From Rags To Riches - Amir Timur Bandit Kingdom Campaign - Ch.1 Ep.1

Amir Timur, also know as Tamerlane, was one of the most destructive human beings to ever live. It's said he was responsible for killing 5% of the total world's population during his lifetime! Love him or hate him, he's shaped the world we live in today.
In this campaign, we'll be following in his footsteps: from humble beginnings, being imprisoned by his enemies, to slowly gathering strength and becoming one of the greatest conquerors and butchers the world has ever seen! And because his rise to power was so unlikely, we'll be enacting several house rules to add tremendous difficulty to the campaign.

Rules:
- Start with Nothing - No weapons, armor, food, denars, troops, mount, etc. & in prison
- At war with everyone on the map, including minor factions
- No buying from towns, villages or caravans allowed (Selling is still allowed)
- Only bandit units allowed or lower tier units that cannot be recruited (peasant, militia, etc.)
- No smithing at any point

- Establish a safehouse in a hideout
- Reach Clan tier 2

Happy to see the return of Tamerlane! Just a heads up, your mic is suddenly popping and crackling quite a bit as you're speaking. This wasn't happening in any of your previous videos so something must have changed as of this recording. Also, the music is great, but I'd recommend turning it down just a smidge. It feels a little high to be talking over since it's got lyrics. Regardless, I'm excited for the start of a new campaign!

Yeah the popping was driving me nuts and I couldn't get a filter to remove it. I would have had to go through each line and lower them manually, which would take me hours per episode :( I didn't realize it until after I had recorded a few hours, so unfortunately it's going to be there for a few episodes. I did get it fixed though so it will be gone soon. As for the music, I messed up on that :( It's usually -30dB but I did -25 on accident. It's good for tomorrow's episode I appreciate the heads up on these!

In Malay, Amir means commander of an army and Timur means east. So he is Commander of the East and that sounds cool

I like these starts, they always tell a story! ... - Running away from and beating the first group and capturing your first "companion" (please update him somehow :D) - Converting the prisoner and together you hunted a local lonely bandit that after a short fight was recruited as a second "companion". - After you wiped out a group that was hunting your friends, you could capture two other people that came in a second ambush, a bandit and his boss. Not far away you found their stash and a prisoner from the aserai which took shelter in your party. - A day later your small groups is suddenly confronted by a enemies and you connot set up a hit and run tactic and have to fight. The Aserai faints in shock, but your first mateand the others can help you. You can kill two of them and have two knocked out. Your first mate can upgrade his gear and together you try to decide what to do with the two prisoners. As the topic of selling them into slavery comes up one of them who had listend whispers that their gang has a hideout in the region, that if conquered, offers a stash of goods and may be a future base of operation... Please do upgrade them, this would be so funny to have these five (or seven) be a constant (until the get brutally murdered because of your modlist lol)

he wasn't quite mongol btw, he carried a khan (comes from the generation of cenghis) as a puppet to control some mongolian states and soldiers. he was turk, we kinda know that from things he said. when he was in conquest for persian lands, he visited a poets grave. he was Firdevsi (ferdowsi for english i think). Firdevsi hated turks and Timur kicked his grave and told "O Ferdowsi, get up! get up and see the defeated Turk now that you vilified in every line! See the Turk you insulted and despised in Kalk! Get up, get up and look, is Isfahan beautiful or is it Samarkand? I did not leave any Persians from Baghdad to the place where you sleep! The grass was endless where my crippled foot stepped" sooo... he was a turk and he was a menace literally. he was fearsome but he loved art too. i think he was the perfect leader for that era and place. otherwise he would've been assassinated somehow i feel like.

I would probably like the posture mechanic more if it resulted in a shield-bash-like stagger. People falling over for no particularly obvious reason just seems sort of comical and immersion breaking for me. Is that something the mod lets you turn off? I have yet to give it a go. I'm gonna drop another plug for you trying out Hellish Quart. I am about to talk myself into getting it and I am one CHEAP SOB I tell ya. Apropos of pretty much nothing, I love throat singing. La!

The posture system is under the RBM AI settings in RBMs mod menu. You can turn it off completely, reduce posture loss or increase its recovery speed etc.

Yeah you can turn off the posture system, but then the battles go on for an even longer time than they already are because the AI just blocked everything. It's almost like an anti-stalemate mechanic. I know what you mean though, it won't be an issue once we get past the first few episodes as we'll be mostly using bow from horseback. I remember looking at Hellish Quart when it was first announced on steam a while back. It looks interesting, my biggest concern is that it's more like a Tekken style that might be difficult to turn into a campaign or series. Plus I generally suck at street-fighter-esque games lol

@@StratPlays I bought it last night. Not much content. Still, if you're a physics based combat addict like me, it's the next step. Bannerlord really is still just as good or maybe a touch better gameplay wise. Just I really enjoy the FEEL of a more impact-simulated combat. And they implemented 1st person view lately too. Not yet across all game modes, but it's there and it rocks. It can be kind of hard to read what's going on.... Anyhow... I give it two thumbs up and a snap with the admission it's something of a niche obsession of mine. I also played a goodly number of hours of a top down physics based one called Exanima. I like the arena mini game.

This one is going to be much more hardcore than Robin Hood too :) I turned on a mod that increases death chance up for companions and nobles. It's anywhere from 20% - 50%, so it should be interesting to see how it all plays out!

Yeah he was actually! He was hired by nobles to be a bandit and raid their opposition. He supposedly was lamed while stealing sheep from another tribe. Then after he escaped captivity, he gathered up a bunch of vagrants and criminals to form his early party. In his later years he was a legit commander and leader (He wasn't allowed to rule directly, as that would violate locate customs since he wasn't blood-related to Ghengis Khan, so he used puppets).

Good question - I feel like both mods should be stable as they don't really change much about the game other than troop trees. Yeah I decided to skip Banner Kings for this campaign as the focus isn't going to be on managing fiefs (until MAYBE the late game if we survive long enough lol)

Clarification: Tatar does not mean mix of Mongolian-Turkic people, Tatars were mainly Turkic people group but later on the term Tatar started to apply to all people east of Urals, or they called those lands in maps Tatarstan and any one who lives there got called Tatar like Mongols, but thinking of of those peoples as mix of two also makes sense in our culrural understanding, since when people thinks about the heavily horse centered Asian nomadic societies that lives in steppes people thinks now of Mongols while that description perfectly describes early Turks as well, we even had same religion, Tengrism.

@@StratPlays its an ethnicity, but due to the location they live in was bunched up with a lot other places, got mapped very wrongly and everyone in that general area started to got called Tatar or Tartar. its like how word Afrika just used to be describe places around Tunisia during Romans and later when they started to map there, everyone in that continent got called African.

I've studied central asian music extensively, you should credit Karolina Cicha for the music, it does not receive enough exposure. I know she has gone after multiple people who have used Bağçalarda kestane and not credited her before as well, plus it's just the right thing to do. She plays all the instruments in her songs and is so incredibly talented.

Timur was a leader of a Turkic tribe but among his army, there are various Turkic and Mongol tribes. It is said that he always was accompanied by a member of a Borjigin (Genghis Khan's House) since they carried the golden (royal) blood. That's why he did not take any title such as Khan, Khaghan, Sultan, Emperor, Prince or King. He was just an Emir although he ruled the strongest Empire of that era.

Doing this challenge with True Armies of Calradia and bandit numbers are never less than 6. If you're lucky, there's one veteran bandit with 4 javelins and that's it. I spent 7 years before eliminating my first bandit party

If you're doing it without mods, I recommend mountain bandit camps! Since most of the fighting is 3v1 or less, it's actually not too bad. With RBM and True Armies of Calradia, they all have throwing weapons so pretty much any party can be a target :)

for horse archers just grab a ton of companions and equip them as such. given enough time they will become the best units available to you by a wide margin. if you go to the fringes of mods you could add in Prima Noctus and knock up all women you capture to grow your clan to massive proportions if you give it enough time for more Horse Archers. if you don't want to go that bandity then you could throw in Hot Butter (and cut out the cut scenes during editing) and have a lot more kids with a wife instead of the usual 3. you could do marry anyone and marry peasants into a harem as well for the same effect. of course you go the cheese route and do a solo run, running away when you run out of arrows and come back over and over until you solo entire armies. there is a mod that allows you to upgrade bandits into your warband troops, which could also be a way to get horse archers (you just have to make sure that you give them bandit equipment of the right value and level).

I thiiiiiink you might be able to use Hot Butter (which I think works with Captive Events right?) And it has a console you can actually turn the events off and not get any of the x rated content. It was annoying to me that, after I got my little cheap thrill playing with the captive events, I went to look for a serious mod about the games pregnancy generator, and it turns out Captive Events has about the best pregnancy regulation mechanics I could find. D'oh. It's probably not entirely fair referring to captive events as a cheap thrill, as actually they have done a TON of good work in terms of streamlining and educating people how to make their own custom events. But it's just kinda funny to me.... Like porn built the internet I guess.

That's an interesting request lol I'll have to look into that one! So I'm using distinguished service to recruit companions from bandit units and death for all to keep the population in check. Death rate is really high - somewhere around 20% - 50% so close battles will have lots of death and destruction.

I think the mod.. Cultured Start(???) allows you to pick your beginning. One of them is that you are an escaped prisoner hence you start with NOTHING which is what you were trying to start with.

I know he's known as Tamerlane in the west but his Turkish nickname is Timurlenk or Aksak Timur. Aksak means limping or lame. He had a leg injury in a battle when he was young.

Yeah we'll be using a bunch of companions! I didn't have a chance to make the intro video yet, but I also didn't want to delay the series a few days but we're using 2 mods - distinguished service and death to all. When a single unit gets 3+ kills in one battle, we'll have the option to promote them. However, the death chance for ALL nobles/companions is around 20 - 50% depending on gear and medicine skill. I actually had to restart this first episode 5 times to survive that first battle haha it will all be in the intro video :)

I can never get mods to work on bannerlord, tried to use your mod list, what version of the game were you running at the time of this recording? Was it 1.1.0?

If I recall, this one was on 1.0.3 actually. 1.1.0 was giving issues, but i've since gotten the mods to work on it. Distinguished service does not work though, the others should be fine

I used character reloader to change character names and looks, then used console commands for the war declarations

I've started to move everything over to the main channel (Strat_Gaming) so once you're done with these, I should have a new campaign running using a new set of mods - Eagle Rising and European Map are both in there!

I installed them manually as I've seen the mod manage have issues with crashing for specific mods. It's not too hard to install manually, I have an install guide on the main channel if you're not sure how that's done!

could you add distinguished survice to make your bandits into companions? if you tweak the death rates so that their almost the same as normal units, I think it would make it so much intresting. I cannot describe how excited i am for this campaign, I was so sad when I thought this campaign was dumped

Yup, it's on there! And I added a mod called Death for all which increases the death rate by an order of magnitude lol it's nuts! I actually died 4 or 5 times myself trying to get a weapon and had to restart :P

It's OBS - they did a ninja update on me and I didn't catch that it reset my settings and filters :( I recorded several hours too, so it's present for a few episodes. I tried to get rid of it with a filter, but I would have to manually go in each frame to adjust it (it's not technically a frame because audio has much higher refresh rate than 60hz video that KZbin allows, but you know what I mean lol)

I've been playing this with most of the mods you listed and it's really hard! One thing I've noticed is that you encountered mountain bandits down near Jaculan and along the coast there, but I'm running into almost exclusively sea raiders. The lowest tier sea raiders don't have any throwing weapons and that's made it even more difficult to get an initial weapon. Do you know why you ended up with mountain bandits there?

Bandit spawns are mostly RNG in that area and it can spawn both. I usually find sea raiders there too, but got lucky on this one. Mountain bandits are not too hard to find either, I usually find them inland instead of along the coasts.

About Tamerlan's "nationality", in the stepped there wasn't anything like that. You being Turkic or Mongol, etc. wasn't something anyone considered. What mattered the most was your Clan and Tribe. There was a lot of intermarrying between tribes and basically none of them were purely Turkic or Mongolic. And tribes themselves weren't cultural blocks, but rather political entities and it wasn't uncommon for tribes to absorb one another through war or peacefully uniting. This is also why there are SO MANY Turkic influences in Mongolian and so many Mongolic influences in Turkish languages, right down to sharing grammatical features... The very concept of "nationality" is a rather modern invention. The idea of an identity built around shared language, cultural values, history, etc. only really came about in late 1700's

I remember reading that you couldn't be the Khan unless you had a direct bloodline to Genghis, so he took marriages that had some of the bloodline to legitimize his position. Makes sense that nobody every said he wasn't a Mongol or anything like that, mostly just bloodline and tribal issues. Thanks for sharing that!

Another area you can start out would be in the deserts. Enemys with javelins and lots of area to hide and wait for your first batch of recruiting. Btw, would it be allowed to upgrade peasants into the base recruit for a tiny bit of leadership exp?
