Salters is a very old company. The firm began life in the late 1760s in the village of Bilston, England when Richard Salter, a spring maker, began making the first spring scales in Britain. Good video 🇬🇧😐

Very nice restoration, beautiful colors. Reminds me of the old spring loaded kitchen scale my mom had when I was growing up. It was a bright sunny yellow, which I believe was popular in American kitchens in the 1950s and 60s.

What a beautiful restoration! You are very talented, and obviously take pride in your work. A family member had a Salter scale very similar to this - perhaps a 1930s make. It had the same brass face, but was a very pale mint green, it was a very striking combination. But I do like the gold trim you added.

I think from the factory that they were enamel coated. I don't mean enamel paint, I mean proper enamel coating. The pitting on the cast surface wouldn't have been an issue. Also, the fashion of that era would most probably have been blue detail of similar shade to the masking tape you used and not gold. This is just FYI. I always enjoy your restos

Sooooo beautiful! The difference between the weight of the electronic scale (1677 g) and that of the wonderful newly refurbished scale (approx. 1600 g) may be due to the weight of the bowl containing the tomatoes in the electronics. But that difference does not make the restored one any less beautiful.

Great job, wonderful restoration! I really liked how you did the milling for the screw slots without having a cross table and reshaping back the table! Btw get yourself some threaded sleeves (Gewindehülse), they are pretty cheap and when putting the screw in there you don't damage the thread when clamping in the chuck. And they make working on the lathe a lot easier (and safer) when you want to sand small screws, because with the sleeve the screw is further away from the chuck. You can get them at pretty much every hardware store and you can just buy one or two for every thread size you use. Anyways, very much enjoyed the video. Thank you for sharing!

That, good sir, is absolutely beautiful! The paint job you did is perfect, makes the whole chassis of the machine look more like porcelain than cast iron. And I, for one, love your lathe the best of every single lathe I have seen in restoration videos. The fact that it can do typical lathing duties and still do double duty as a milling machine makes this the MUST OWN machine in anyone's shop. Seriously! Do you take beer donations from viewers or do you special order them?
