An all too familiar story of tragedy and resilience is forged in the slums of the third world.
Losing her parents to a tragic accident, 12 year old Asima has become the carer and sole provider for her two younger siblings, 7 year old brother Ahmed and 3 year old sister Sofia.
She is their sister… she is their mother… she is their means of survival… she is only a child.
Six months ago, they would be getting ready for school... today, the walk to school has now become a walk to work at a construction site. This is her school now. The repetition of times table replaced by the repetition of stacking bricks.
Like many other orphans around the world, Asima is her household’s only breadwinner having been forced to take on the role of parent at such a young age. Without any parental support, her dreams of having an education and a way out of this miserable situation are shattered.
