The totem things in the woods are the children. The children were ritually sacrificed and their souls tied to the talismans, that’s how they function. They want to be freed, that’s what Tabitha and Vics mom were trying to do, set their souls free. I don’t know how though. Whatever entity is controlling the town created the monsters to keep people from getting to the children. They’re like hell hounds

Interesting theory. I disagree about the totems being the children, though. TeflonTV clearly showed us, that one of the totems has a damage eye and one of the apparitions to Jade was a disturbing one-eyed man drinking blood from a skull. The totems are clearly adults, that died/were sacrificed somehow in Fromville.

Henry provides the explanation - that his wife, after an acid trip, accessed a nightmare place missing people/lost souls go. She painted what she saw add she told Victor and Eloise about it - Eloise in turn drew pictures from the stories, as Tabitha says in season 2. The town has been around a long time and the 'monsters' are former missing souls that have been broken - they become the monsters having not been able to escape. Fatima is breaking, so is becoming one, hence her teeth falling out & the desire to eat spoiled food. The dates that were on the stairwell Tabitha climbed in season 2 has the dates of the various incarnations of the town, and the monsters are costumed to match those dates. The cabins are small because they are likely not for living in - they look more like storage huts - they lack windows and there are no remnants of furniture. I think for everyone, the experience in the forest is difference - so the same route can lead to difference places and everyone has a different nightmare. The white thing Victor drew isn't a totum (which look like 1600 witch icons) - it's something we haven't seen yet. It also seems to me that someone needs to die in order for them to get replenishment, eg: Mrs Liu dies and Kenny comes back with food. It could also be that there are others in the woods tending those crops - and these people own the dog Boyd comes across. The pictures in Henry's basement show the church with light flashing out of the windows and pilgrim figures we haven't seen yet. It all seems to be revolving around Camden, Maine and I think Victor's father is now a crucial character.

For me cabin are remains after another group of people who were trapped in Fromville but in a different time/cycle. The former Fromvillers probably came by boats as it is shown in the painting in the cave. Currently I think a survivor/survivors from the previous cycle is/are living there but the cabins can be as well abandoned and resident of Fromville can encounter another threat there. Taking in account Elgin's fear of water and (as visible in the promo photos) proximity of a new body of water close to the cabins, I think this place will probably not be safe.

I think sometime long ago 1500s there was a blood sacrifice involving the angkooey kids. When Tabitha goes up to the lighthouse you can see the year 1506 etched on the brick. The one-eyed man that Jade sees looks like he is from the pilgrim era and he is drinking out of a small skull, which is most likely a child’s skull. I’m thinking this man, was apart of some twisted cult ritual and the cabins are where the kids were kept. Side note: Somehow I think that the monsters are a side effect of the original ritual. Since the monsters are “humans” the ritual must repeat itself every however many years and the monsters were probably created in the 50s hence the 50s style diner and the clothes that the monsters wear.

I'm just noticing something. Doesn't everyone think the town really likes to play with people's past/fear and trauma. For example, when Boyd killed that girl from the bus who had something stuck from her head in the tree by the monsters. It was Boyd who had to relieve her from her misery. Then Boyd explained to Donna how back in his first Iraq tour he had a first kid died in his arm who also had the same name as the girl who Boyd had to kill. Then looking back the scene with the chain guy (Martin). He was in the navy and was begging Boyd to kill him and relieve him from his misery. Then you have season 3 ep 1 the monsters made him watch someone close to him die. And now, the trailer from ep 2 season 3 you have the monsters holding the key telling him you can't save them all. Hmmm, this got me all thinking tbh.

If you go to Kenya you will find smaller homes. if you study ancient architecture like the Vikings, the homesteads were smaller and lower. these cabins look like they were built by settlers of the 1600s. I've heard one interesting theory that the town of from is actually the missing town of Roanoke, where the Settlers vanished Without a Trace leaving only a tree with a crow carved upon it.

Im starting to think the monsters are humans that turned into wendigos. Wendigos are from native folklore and are people who resorted to cannibalism, which turned them into the wendigo monster. The shots of the guy drinking from the skull is obviously an important clue to the history of fromtown. When people turn into wendigos they lose all humanity, they shape shift, and are solely focused on catching and eating humans. There has been a theme throughout the series of food running out and people's reactions to it. The biggest problem in ep 1 of s 3 was rotton crops and live stock rationing. This is part of the cycle of the place. It's going to turn into a situation where the people face starvation, and the people who turn to cannibalism will become a monster or a wendigo. Then the cycle will start over with new people being stuck there and the people who turned to cannibalism will be monsters. That's why the monsters are dressed in clothing from different decades. They're the people who, during their time being trapped in from ville, turned to cannibalism. And because of that, they're cursed to live there forever as wendigos. The images on talismans look like something natives would have made, and the dogs in show could represent wolves, which is also part of the wendigo lore. And the massacre that took place was the day the people who choose cannibalism turned on their fellow fromvillians which started the new cycle. That's why Victor is the only remaining person from the cycle before the current one. There isn't a population that has been in from that spans generations. It has to reset after a period of time. It could also be situation were the government knows about the place and helps keep it running as part of a deal with natives to keep the wendigos fed and contained.

The cabins are ot small, they're buried. Either by sediment accumulation or it was an old practice to build a cabin over a hole, the hole would be 1 third of the home, because it acted as a natural "air conditioner". So over time the part the was under ground level got filled by sediment.

When tabitha is looking out of the windows at the hospital it looks like someone else is looking at her through the same glass. Clear glass shouldn't have that type of reflection in the day time. The reflection is so strong that we can see it several feet away rom her like its a mirror. Whats up with that?

First I think the cabins are called dugout cabins. Inside the floor is dug down to the frostline to make them easier to heat and cool. So you step down into it the cabin and it allows the outside to be shorter to reduce surface area. Second , the totems can't work like the stones because Donna clearly stated you have to be inside an enclosed space and the totems are outside. But they would scare people if that's what you meant. Those totems does look similar to the rune stones they found and those cabins almost remind me of early civilization and the fact that it’s covered in moss almost proves how old they are. It could just be a depiction that people have been there way before they were given that they had different timelines to that realm existing.

When they said “there’s no spider webs we aren’t close” is it possible the only reason the webs were there was because the spider dragged them and dropped them near the faraway tree? I think it was nested up and showing visions to get him to go inside? And the spider isn’t running through there rn so the webs aren’t there?
