This is a plant everyone who is interested in Phalaenopsis should have. You have done a lovely job in the cultivation of this beautiful plant, To stop any spores of fungus attacks which require an acidic surface to grab hold of just make sure the surface of the leaves are slightly alkaline with a little wipe with milk or polish the leaves, if they need it, with a little salad cream. Well done and I hope that it will give you multiple blooms in the near future.

I agree with you Ed. This is a great orchid, one of my favorites in the collection for its ease of growth and fragrance. I hope you're well, and I appreciate the tips 😊❤

Hi Nicole, Love your channel, I've really learned a lot from your posts! I've been experimenting lately with New Zealand tree fern fiber, and since potting my not so thriving Bellina into it from bark, it has put out two humongous fat leaves and has started two flower spikes! An experiment in progress, but so far great results!

That's amazing! I hear good things about tree fern. I hear it maintains moisture well, but I haven't personally used it. Thank you for watching my videos and for the lovely comment :)

Nicole, today I visited J&L for the first time and got some orchids that have been on my wishlist. Phalaenopsis schilleriana (Luzon Philippines) Phalaenopsis bellina Sarawak ('Red Apple' x alba) Phalaenopsis violacea Malay-Sumat coerulea Tawan Blue They're about seedling size in sphagnum moss which I know is good for seedlings but I have more success with bark here in CT. I'm planning on adding more bark everytime I repot them. For the violacea, there were more mature plants for sale but the leaves were not in good condition. The moss appears pretty compact and I can only see the root tip of one root in the nursery container. Not sure if I'm ready to repot them yet. It would be nice to assess the root condition soon after purchase though.

Hi Nicole. I’m glad you did this video on the Bellina orchid. I’ve tried several times to grow it but failed. I don’t think my temperature in the house is high enough. 76 degrees year round. Miss Paula suggested using a heat mat under it. I’ll have to get one if I want a Bellina ( and I do). I’ve had mold before and what looked like eggs to you. I thought they were mushroom spores. I treated my roots the same way you did, I sprayed with hydrogen peroxide. Thanks for a great video. 👏🥰🤗❤️

Thank you for watching! I agree with Paula. A heat mat could help a lot. It's definitely a hot grower, and likes things toasty. This is one of the reasons I never put it in leca because I thought it was too cooling. Thank you for watching ❤️

I bought a Bellina after seeing yours, 3 years ago, and mine is PATHETIC 😩. I thought I had totally lost it and put it through MsOrchidGirl’s ICU and, after almost 3 years, it has 2 little, miserable leaves and a few tiny but healthy roots, so I keep on praying🙏. I am soooo jealous of yours. Amazing job😍

Oh no! Maybe she has some sort of sickness or something? I hope it pulls through!! I always like to keep her nice and hot and water as it's approaching dryness.

Hi Nicole. Very nice and healthy orchid! May I ask you sth? Do you put all ur phals in full moss set up? And how you water them? Thanks 🙏 ❤🎉
@NicoleDeanna
@NicoleDeanna 5 ай бұрын
Most of my phals are in moss but if the pot is very big (say more than 6 inches, I add bark for extra aeration

I really enjoy your repotting videos. I must have missed something though. May I ask why you are now not using semi-hydro? Does this include self-watering pots?

Thank you Judy! I found some of my orchids declined using the grow method. Check out my video Ask Me Anything | How I Grow Orchids Indoors In NYC where I explain what happened with the grow method and how I used self watering pots. In short, I still use the self watering pots, just don't use the self watering capability :) I hope this helps!

@@NicoleDeanna I have used self-watering pots over the summer while orchids are on a very warm porch and they have done well. I will bring them into my house soon and wonder if I should not use the self-watering feature over the winter.
@NicoleDeanna
@NicoleDeanna Жыл бұрын
@@judycook4314 if the temps are cooler indoors with spagnum moss I don't use the self watering feature. I just water and water again as it approaches dryness so the roots aren't soggy and cool which may lead them to rot

I definitely switch a few seedling bellinas to moss this summer cause they were growing slow even in small bark. Where did you get the shallow pot you took her out of? It's so hard to find good shallow pots. 😊
@NicoleDeanna
@NicoleDeanna Жыл бұрын
I got the shallow pots on Amazon. They are linked in the description as 'plants with saucer'. If you want just a couple I can send you a few as well if you don't want to buy 10 lol

@NicoleDeanna Hey hon yea I saw they were in the description but I wanted to make sure those were the ones. Shallow pots are hard to find! 🤣 I appreciate the offer but I probably could use 10! 🤣

This would have been the time to put a stake in there and pull the stem into a more upright position to counteract the lean. It will still try to lean as it grows but you can just pull it back to the stake every now and then.

I'm just getting into orchids and this was very helpful . I have come to the realization that I need warm or hot growing orchids for my climate. I have 5 mini phalaenopsis that I don't know if I'll be able to rebloom them as my apartment never gets below 70 degrees in the winter unless I run the ac. It gets down into the 60s outside, but I don't know where I'd put them at night. The nursery down the street from me had pulcherrima hybrids outside in their tropical shade house, and I couldn't resist getting one. It's a deep cerise color and is still growing buds. I wish it was fragrant but I'm keeping my eye out for a belina. Miss Orchid girl has raved about it for years in her videos and you have a few. I don't know if it would do well in a Tucson, AZ apartment. My humidifier has been running nonstop and it's been between 49%-65% humidity.
