250 rounds in a year is absolutely key. I started playing like 4 years ago and went from 130+ my first round to 82 last year. But I've probably played 100-120 rounds over that span. Being deliberate AND devoting tons of hours to it is how you'll improve quickly at any hobby. Everything you talk about here is 100% relevant, but it's all accelerated and more impactful with that much time invested, because you can build on progress so quickly. For those guys playing 20 rounds a year with minimal practice, this kind of progress is almost impossible. Love the journey - definitely inspiring, but people need to keep expectations matched with time available for play/practice.

@kylesdoomed3 жыл бұрын
Congratulations bro keep grinding but you NEED a coach and to take many many many lessons as a beginner. If you did that 82 would have come prob in 6 months instead of 4 years... Even if you go out for 12 hours a day 7 days a week and swing the club like crap 1000+ times a day you're just going to develop bad tendencies and make it way harder to get rid of them. Devoting many hours to legitimate progress and game like situations will be the best for your development. Work from the green out and make everything as simple as possible like he said in the video.
@cpall0563 жыл бұрын
@@kylesdoomed of course. I've had a few lessons. My point was that everything in this video is spot on BUT it all requires a lot of time and effort to make this kind of progress at such a rapid rate. Which is your point too, to some degree. Most people can't get a coach and jump from mid 80s to under par in 1 year because they just don't play or practice enough to make progress that quickly. Gabe showed us what's possible when you commit and grind like hell. My point also was that he's managed to play twice as many rounds this past year than I've played in 3.5 years. I'm probably closer to the norm in terms of rounds per year and hours devoted to practice, which means I accept I can't match his progress. It's just something for people to keep in mind when they see what he's accomplished. Most people will never get close to 250 rounds in a year and must maintain realistic expectations relative to the time they can commit to play and practice.
@kylesdoomed3 жыл бұрын
@@cpall056 Take half the money spent on rounds per year and spend that on lessons. With the same amount of practice time and devotion but with the correct information this time. Then the other half of rounds played per year scores will all be in the 80's instead of playing in the hundreds for 3 years to get there. It's not about the amount of time you spend its about the quality of time spent. You need to walk before you can run.
@cpall0563 жыл бұрын
@@kylesdoomed you're missing the point. Skills are built through repetitions. Gabe has been grinding hard and it's paid off. The reality is that with access to the same information/coaching, someone willing/able to devout 1000+ hours to golf in a year is going to make much better progress than someone committing 10% of that. And that's not specific to golf. It's true for any skill. Two people who take up sketching and use the same educational materials will make dramatically different progress if one person practices those skills 30 hours a week and the other 3. My comment had nothing to do with my own progress. I'm fully aware of how my own progress has evolved and have no issues with it. I'm aware it could have been faster. What I'm saying is that average Joe shouldn't watch this video and believe they can accomplish the same level of progress in one year unless they are willing to grind as much as Gabe did. That's a pretty simple and undeniable statement when it comes to developing skills.

I'm with you 100%! I went on a journey myself to get better at golf which started with a commitment to fitness. I lost 60lbs overall but also packed on a lot of muscle so who knows how much fat I really lost...lol. I also began doing triathlons. The dramatic change in my body absolutely destroyed my swing though I gained a ton of speed. From there I went on an 18 month journey starting at a 10hcp to and leading to where i am now, a .5! I took lessons, committed to practicing daily, and got down to a 3hcp in about a year, though I still hadn't broken par even once. The last 6 months have been all about strengthening my mind. Thank you Bob Rotella Audiobooks! And... learning about course management. The last 6 months have been a revelation. I'm finally breaking par with regularity and shot my all time low round of 68 last Saturday! FYI: My goal is to get to a +1 I feel like I have a lot to learn still. Solid content and agree w all 4 pillars for success. The only thing I would disagree with is around getting professionally fitted for clubs. Many years ago I also thought it was unnecessary, but received a bday gift for a fitting and figured what the heck. I did a fitting for both irons and driver and as a pretty decent golfer, was shocked to see some of my crap numbers around dispersion, lousy spin rates, launch, etc. Fitter did a superb job of tweaking things w a bunch of different shafts and head combos and finally zeroed in on what he thought worked best for me. Flash forward: the very next round I played, I knocked 5 strokes off my game. Thought it may have been the afterglow of the fitting, but next 5-6 rounds, same deal and each day either tied or beat my personal best. There’s a reason ALL pros get professionally fitted. In 2 wks I go for this season’s fitting for driver and new wedges. And you just know I will be hitting the Autoflex!

Looking forward to hearing a more long term review of the autoflex and any tweaks or things that you have had to change. I have a 505x on the way to try out. Are you considering the shaft for your 3-wood also? Interested in your wedge experimenting as well. I can never figure out the bounce thing.. people say high bounce is easier to hit and more forgiving but I seem to do better with low bounce usually. I have no idea what wedges I should be playing. All I know is they are inconsistent.
@GabeGallucciGolf3 жыл бұрын
Really appreciate that Ryan! That's exciting! What driver head are you using? I don't think I'm gonna use it on my 3wood because after seeing how versatile my driver is off the tee now I don't think I'm going to be using the 3 wood on anything other than off the deck in the fairway on par 5's and I have that shot pretty dialled in right now with my current setup. There is a part of me tho that wants to try it in my 2 iron because I'll be using that off the tee whenever it doesn't call for driver. Same here with the wedge bounce. Seems confusing so I'm gonna try and sort through the weeds!

@@GabeGallucciGolf Initially I will be trying it in the standard Mavrik. Will see what the spin looks like. I'm currently around 2300-2400 spin at 108-111 mph. I honestly have never tried a sub-zero since I was worried that mis-hits would be really punishing since it isn't as forgiving - supposedly. If my spin gets too high with autoflex I may have to try tinkering with the sub-zero. Did you notice any large spin/launch angle increase with autoflex vs your previous shaft?
@GabeGallucciGolf3 жыл бұрын
@@ryanp.5098 Spin yes, launch angle stayed the same. I have an upcoming auto flex update where I show what I did with the head weights. Basically just took the 14g weight out and swapped it with another 2g weight and all of a sudden the shaft came alive

Love the vids man just played my first full season last year and got down to 20-22ish handicap

so your advice with the 5 steps is to play 1 round / day ? I think it's the best to do. Sometimes we get a lot of time practicing the swing and we have problems to transfer all the good stuff to the course because of the mental approach and because the course is the real life. usually I don't want to go to the course when I feel my swing is "off" and prefer to stay at the range but I think you're right : good or bad feeling the best for progress is to go and play with the swing and the mental of the day and to try to score with what we have these day to become more resilient. thanks a lot for your videos Gabe, it's an inspiration for those who are grinding too, we feel less alone, especially during this covid crisis and winter conditions. 😎💪🏼 can't wait to see you next videos on Autoflex and flexibility. One clarifying question about fitting, was your custom fit a chase or search for something in your game? And that is why it hindered and didn’t complement the Flow?
@GabeGallucciGolf3 жыл бұрын
Great question! I thought the fitting process would cut the lead time on getting me tools to the "flow" state but without proper fitness, a great swing and course strategy it doesn't matter what you use. Clubs, in my opinion, won't make as big of an impact unless you've invested yourself into those first 3 processes. Now once you've done that you will know so much more about yourself and your game in order to make informed decisions about how to structure your bag and in the end you'll probably save time and money and just find stuff on your own that compliments you!

Good advice man. I’m curious, do you feel that your custom fit clubs may feel in the way now because they where tuned to your swing last year? I think that may be an important point. If your working on swing changes maybe hold off on getting fit like that as that is a fine tuning process... curious to hear your thoughts on that.
@GabeGallucciGolf3 жыл бұрын
Totally and that's because I made the mistake of being custom fit before I had worked out enough, fixed my swing and developed a proper course strategy. I think what I'm trying to rally against most in the golf industry is the constant push to get fit for new stuff all the time without address the actual things that can make you a better golfer. I didn't see a single video during my research going thru the process last year that pushed any other alternatives and every gear review says "get fit, get fit, get fit!"... So I took that advice and because I had never had new clubs before in my life, I thought and hoped it would be a substantial difference but basically lit $6000 on fire. After now going through all this first hand and seeing what actually leads to better golf scores I want show people that you don't need new stuff to score. I could pretty much shoot even to +3 over par with any clubs right now because of the time I've put in to working out, my swing and course management, and so could anyone else too! I'm no freak of nature, we all can do this! The only reason I make equipment tweaks now is cause my margin for error is so tiny to get to a +6 I need to maximize each shot. But even then, my current bag costs just over HALF (including the autoflex) of what I paid for in custom clubs and my scoring is way better. I want show people you don't need to bleed yourself financially to get better at golf!
@alipajooman3 жыл бұрын
@@GabeGallucciGolf great comment. I have been thinking the same thing. Currently I am playing 15 year old Callaway x14 pros with and extra stiff shaft :P... because they were free! Just working on rebuilding my swing and I won’t get a new club until I feel my swing is something that feels good and consistent. I would say that once you got a good swing look into getting fit if you can’t find something that feels good for you. But like you said with a consistent swing you should get decent results with almost any club in your hand... good for you man
@alipajooman3 жыл бұрын
@@GabeGallucciGolf Also I forgot to mention you are 100% right everything online keeps saying ‘go get fit’... you rarely see anyone popular mention go fix your swing then get fit... not that it’s wrong some people just want to play and not worry the detail of their swing and want equipment that fits their handicap and helps a bit. But just like I said when I used to teach snowboarding your board will only do what your feet tell it to do whether it’s made from carbon fiber or drift wood (new rider once came to a class with a brand new $1400 Burton)

Your goal like every other goal in your life needs to be realistic. If you can't dedicate time to practice don't expect to break 85 and under constantly.

If I can stop 3 putting every round I’d be in the 80s consistently I working on swing speed now and short game too so I gotta work on putting way. More to get that goal of shooting 39

If you haven’t yet, check out episode 1 of my off szn series. I have an up and down drill I do that pretty much saved my short game and I still do it all the time to keep it in check!

What did you actually do instead of seeing a custom fitter?

I switched to buying used gear instead so I could try more things and see what worked best for me

Let’s see the video of the -6? You just said “it was the best round I’ve ever hit” nobody shooting under par says they hit a -6. You shoot -6

To each their own. I just know from my experience and from playing with a ton of other golfers, fitness plays a huge role in the ability to swing better and lower scores
@siftingtrutheshit23803 жыл бұрын
@@GabeGallucciGolf your experience is cool but it ain't the rule...most people look at what the best do and follow blindly I mean Gary player talks fitness but Jack didn't so it don't matter that much...but people who want to improve will improve but gym sessions and playing is fine an dandy but you can't do that when you get a bit older or maybe you just do what the people in the know do and get a good doctor...like Patrick reed
@GabeGallucciGolf3 жыл бұрын
@@siftingtrutheshit2380 I dunno man Jack was pretty strong and pretty much hit it further than anyone else. If you look at what the best do right now, it's workout. Tiger's biggest advantage was how much he invested in his body to generate so much power and speed
