I saw the New York red and white quilt show on television 8n 2011. I am sure it was one of the seven wonders of the world. When zi finish making queen sized quilts fir each of my five sisters and all fifteen of my grand children I plan to make red and white quilts for myself. 5gat show left such an impression on me I can't stop thinking about it. I'm so glad you're feeling inspired to work with your reds! I absolutely have colors which don't get used often-- orange, purple, brown... I know what it's like to let them sit around, and it feels good to get them out once in awhile and turn them into something. Best of luck!

Sue- I agree that one of the most charming details of your collection is the variety of techniques you have used. You didn’t only make simple design patterns or super complicated designs, but you cover a wide range to embrace the term ‘collection‘. Well done!

Thank you! I enjoy having some variety from quilt to quilt-- in either technique or amount of piecing, or even just color. It's nice to have a variety in the finished quilts, and also necessary while I'm working on them, to change things up and keep me going.

I did go to that show in NY quite by accent. Our guild went down to NY for a quilt show by a NY guild and just happen to hear about the show. Best ever show. I also love red and white quilts. I’ve made 5 and more to come. Thanks so much for sharing your work.

Thank you for the beautiful quilt show. My sister gave me before she died a red and green log cabin quilt that is one of the most beautiful quilts I have ever seen. She did not give it to her children because it did not fit their color schemes, i really feel blessed, and my daughter gave me that is wonderful, so I guess it is time I got back to quilting.

It's fortunate for you to have the log cabin quilt-- and fortunate for the log cabin quilt to have you. I think a quilt is best used when it is loved, and it's clear you do. I'm sure it's the perfect red and green quilt to have near you at this time of year.

I bought the book featuring all the quilts from the original show. It's called Red and White Quilts: Infinite Variety. I recommend it if you don't already have it. Well the green and red goose quilt threw me completely. Completely into a deep dive for the pattern. And how to do paper piecing in a way that does not explode my brain. Because this is just too cool of a quilt for me not to try it over the next year with all my little bits. I think your gradual construction is the key to your success with your scrappy magic. On your small scrap pieced blocks, do you machine or hand piece? Thank you so much for the show! Cannot pick a favorite! Your narratives are wonderful! And the intro and closing photos and music are very enjoyable 😊

For me, it just works to deal with my scraps as the boxes fill up; that way there's always something to start with, or something to add as a border or a back. I think using them as they build up means that there is a great variety of fabrics, and then none of them stick out too badly against the others. I machine piece pretty much everything; if it's crumb piecing/foundation paper piecing, I have done it on my machine.
