They were before the communist anti white government forced them to feel there ranks with blacks and had to restructure the training so they could do it. But from the 60's through 90's there commandos were insanely talented and we're some of the bravest men on earth. There special forces were created by British SAS and they done there heritage proud. They never had the technological power but they made up for it in masterful unconditional warfare skills. Most haven't a clue about these men. They think of navy seals but these men are in my opinion as good as it gets when it come to special warranted operators. Like I said they ate masters at the fundamental skills of Cqb and that's what they focus on. They get way more time behind the trigger during training and are amazing Bush men too

Hy vertel jou die waarheid - dit is 'n wyse man. Julle dink "tribalism" is agterlik. I served in the SA Army from 1988 - 1990 in Northern Namibia and spent time with the Koevoet and 101 guys. We met a few Recce teams when they passed through from time to time. The Recces and other special forces were known to be carefully selected and having had attended carefully thought out, brutally intense physical and psychological training. Johan seems remarkably well adjusted considering all the engagements he must have see/overseen in his days. No Recces were short of grey matter and Johan's sharp wittedness comes through in this candid account of his experience in conventional, covert and clandestine warfare. His assessments of Africa's needs seem well considered too and strategies I mostly agree with as well. These guys will always have work.

Majority of us knew we'd jump right into merc work post contract. That said my fondest memory was walking around with my Bokke top on, and these 3 PMC's started yelling at me in Afrikaans. That made my whole deployment to see my own country men just like me, originally from Cape town, sharing our love for the Bokke and a few beers in a shithole nation in the middle of nowhere! @@toast2610 Maybe, but the likes of Mugabe and Nelson Mandela were part of an organisation that did acts that would be considered terrorism by definition. They are in power and connected to others in power, therefore, they get to write the history books and portray themselves as heroes and I don't see in the foreseeable future that changing and over time people won't really care what happened unless it serves an agenda. Fair point at the start of the book which General Montgomery said, however a German general named Erwin Rommel stated in his dairy after trying to conquer the city of Tobruk from the allies. "If I had to take hell, I would use the Australians to take it and the New Zealanders to hold it." Not trying to shine a spot light, but thats a much bigger saying
@davidm3maniac2014 жыл бұрын
You are trying to put the spotlight on it otherwise why would you say it. Considering Tobruk was made up of various armies mainly Aussies and the brits suppied them and eventually relieved them so why this comment?

That beginning quote by Montgomery saying Boers could destroy the Germans was ridiculous. Not because the Afrikaans weren't great soldiers and warriors, far from it, but the Boers had a close relationship and admired the Germans and their culture. Most didnt want to fight in that fratricidal war, but were forced to fight. If the Boers, English and Americans could see what the world would have become due to their involvement in both Great European Civil War, none of them would have bothered picking up their rifles.
