I struggle with getting the grid right and to match up with my reference image. Can you please explain in more depth how you get the grid to match the paper size for accuracy?

1sq on your reference = 1sq on your grid Eg. I'm working on a 48inch x 24inch canvas, the ratio I am working to is a 2:6 where the 2cm square on my printed image translates to a 6cm square on the canvas. That allows me to scale up the image. The number of squares per row and column must match. Make sense?

Hi, It would have been a little difficult to go into detail through text, so I answered it in my next video. I answered it in the Q and A section. I hope that helps you. The video is now up.

Do you use a specific pencil hardness for the grid? And do you remove the grid again? I mean, if it stays on paper, it will shimmer through the charcoal.

A soft graphite or carbon pencil is better than a harder one. Less likely to indent the paper. Light touch so you can see the grid but just barely. Roll over excess lines with a kneaded eraser will preserve the paper tooth.

I use a softer pencil to not indent the paper, like 2b or 4b. and I only erase the grid first when I'm working on a ver light or white area of the drawing. I answer your question in more depth in my newest video. you can check it out :)
