Bloody brilliant. I remember my time at 1 ARMD REGT when the leopard reigned at the top. So many nights at Mt Bundy hours our very own SallyMan would turn up with all sorts of goodies. He rocked up with hotdogs one night. Pizza another night. The freezing cold cordial during the day was the ultimate pick me up. God bless every SallyMan. You saved mind’s whenever you turned up.

Near 50 years ago there was a cold, soaking and tired 17 y.o. Digger on his first big exercise doing picquet in a flooded gun-pit on a wet night in Wide Bay Training Area. He was the new guy and so rather friendless, trying to stay awake and remember everything he should know and do, and not to do!. He was physically and emotionally exhausted. From the rear came a quiet voice along the comms cord out to the pit, soon followed by the first smiling face he'd seen in weeks. And so I met The Sallyman. He started with a kind word, a hot brew(!!!), and a break (''I'll cover your arcs'') to relax for just a minute or two. Then unbelievably he gave me a pen, paper and envelope to write my new and first girlfriend with a promise to pick it up and mail it later. After a few minutes he loaded up his gear, wished me the best and disappeared into the rain and dark to find the next gun pit. I've never forgotten that Man and his kindness, love and self sacrifice. To this day I always give to The Salvos, I'll even cross the street to donate whenever I see them out and about. (and If they're really lucky I'll bend their ear with my little story!). Just to finish - I never saw a bloody Padre(s) once. Peace.
