Some tips: The enemies you spawn face the camera. Try using the spawn distance option instead of moving the camera to where you want to spawn enemies. There's an option to stop the "tactical view" from throwing the camera into space. Options -> view & control -> top down view (turn off) F11 pauses the game, if you want to get the camera in position or watch a ships damage without it moving around. Holding Q gives you some options. Like instant repair in the designer so you can test with full health armour. Missiles, lasers and EMP are very strong weapons balanced by having strong countermeasures. If your ship lacks proper defenses and you face any of these weapons you're going to have a bad time.

Yeah, it's difficult because the game doesn't have an option to create replays from third person. The only option would be to create in multiplayer and have a second player record, but that's not practical in my case. And then on the other hand, having the time-lapses last too long would mean an already lengthy video would drag on for too long. So I had to settle on a compromise, although I definitely would like to find a different option.

Armor seems a bit thin. Btw if you want to see how it does being made out of alloy, there is a conversion tool that you can access by looking at the ship and pressing V. There is a tab in that menu that says armor refit. You can use that to change to about what ever kind of armor you want. I also think some anti missile and torpedo systems would do you some good too. Nothing like a lams or anything that big. I think some missile interceptors will do just fine. If you got the space putting them on a two axis turret works very well but, you can also have them vertically launch from the hull as well. Some anti air weapons (in the early game the simple weapon AA guns will do fine) would be very handy. Alternatively, you can just swap the mantel for your guns to the AA one.

The realities of being a realistic/historic builder. Usually the designs don't translate super well to FTD so weaponry tends to get underwhelming because ftd weapons take up more space than a deck gun of the same caliber would irl. Hulls usually are shaped and sized in a way that rarely let's you fit what you need in anything but a 1m thick, maybe 2 if lucky hull. Etc etc. Especially if you build realistic interiors aswell
@bobbobson25382 жыл бұрын
@@elementalgolem5498 yea, but you don’t need much more than a 5x5 area and a hole in the deck to make an aps that can hurt. Crams are even smaller, needing only a 3x3x3 cube to work. I have fit aps guns that are 250mm and turreted on to something the size of a rat(the ship). If you can’t even fit that in, you can just use DIF aps guns.
@elementalgolem54982 жыл бұрын
@@bobbobson2538 but very low fire rate aps etc. For example to make a real 2x2x3 gun from real life in FTD would need a 5x5x10 aps quite different. And then ammo storage etc etc meaning it takes more space

@@elementalgolem5498 if you are going for realistic, low rpm is accurate. The uss Iowa’s 16” guns(which are 406mm) has a rpm of 2. And if you want a higher fire rate, you can use 1m autoloaders.
@elementalgolem54982 жыл бұрын
@@bobbobson2538 it's 2 rpm with 3 guns which is 6 rpm and to make it in FTD you would need 2x the area it takes up. But, that's a rather old gun. A modern one such as the mark 45 mod 4 (I won't count zumwalts gun as although bigger it's not in use technically, there's no ammo for it) fires 20rpm but is 127 mm and takes a 3x3x3 area ON TOP of the deck and a 1x1x2m area below the deck aswell as it's barrel requiring space to turn and whatnot. But it's quite different from the FTD version of it that would need a 5x5x5(+-) area below deck taking away from ammo, engine etc. Also, engines. The US navy has far more powerful, fuel efficient and space efficient designs than what you can even min max in FTD. Also also armour, few ships have 1m thick armour let alone the 2-4m that's a standard "minimum" for FTD.

As someone who has played ftd a lot, it is great to see some more videos on it, just discoverd this channel through this one and its pretty nice. I have to say that this is a quite good looking destroyer for a first video, how much playtime do you have already? Cant really add many more tips that haven't been mentioned already but you seem to have a little overkill engines with that much spare power, id recommend lowering it which whould make it even cheaper and lighter if you dont need it for future upgrades. Also using heavy armour on such a small ship might not be that great, it instead have multiple layers of metal and alloy since HA is incredibly heavy while metal has almost neutral buoyancy and alloy the best in the game (after air). Some decent light armour whould be: Metal-Alloy-Airgap-Alloy/(Metal around important bits) since that whould be bouyand and also help against HESH and HEAT. For me HA is only used if going against very powerfull craft or if you are very short on space. Also i can recommend looking at faction craft, specifically the SS if you want realistic build as lose examples (Dryad and Resolute are some great looking easy difficulty ww2 destroyers) Hope to see more of you, i really enjoyed this video!

@solsystem1342 Жыл бұрын
For anyone still reading this ensure you are fully wrapping components in heavy armor. Except in rare circumstances you shouldn't bother covering the top of something in heavy armor but not the bottom or the front but not the back because damage will find its way through the weaker armor. Leaving you with an empty box of heavy armor protecting nothing. Occasionally on large turrets a fronting of heavy armor makes sense. Either around the gun mantlet or down the entire turret front if the gun is very important. This can sometimes allow the cannon to take a hit that would have otherwise killed it without adding too much to the cost. (Ie: stopping large AP rounds or a small cram shell from deleting the turret). Tldr: if you're using heavy armor to protect something that is vital to the craft, stops a chain reaction or, could turn the tide of battle if it dies that's good. If you're using it to make a chunk of armor a bit tougher or allowing the components it protects to die anyways by leaving gaps that's not great.
