I periodically come back to this documentary time and time again, and seeing Tea Girl always makes me sad. An innocent bystander who's literally known nothing her entire life, someone who more than likely wishes life was simple. My heart breaks for the people of North Korea, and the things they've been forced into with out any say so.

I agree. I don't think she was in any sort of trouble. The tea shop she works at is part of the approved tour. They (the government minders, tour guides, Pun Yun Chi herself) know for a fact that some visitors would be taking videos. Unless she said anything disparaging about the government, then she's in trouble. Until then, I can reasonably say she was fine.

Rewatching in 2021 and the tea girl part almost made me cry man. She was so hyped to actually get to do something, some type of human interaction. She says she doesn't blame you, but in her heart she silently does and you know that. Over the years you grow distant as you focus on your job and the kids.
