The gesture coaches Shōgun hired were invaluable it seems in producing an authentic esthetic on the show. The production continues to impress 👏

Too bad Mariko speaks flawless English with no trace of accent and her dialog is too familiar with people of higher status than herself. Not enough politeness, no trouble with certain letters any native Japanese-speaker struggles with. Very jarring and ruins the magic.
@isham20446 ай бұрын
@@cleverkittn get out of here Karen, if you want to be specific, they should be speaking Portuguese instead of English. Anna Sawai's accent while flawed, she perfectly capture the essence the character of Mariko herself. The book itself while complex and has a good Narrative and Writing, has disregarded alot of Japanese culture. Its no surprise there considering the Author is a White Caucasian thats whole entire novels is fantasizing Asian culture with a White Savior. The perfomances and details of the show could never compare with the books.
the fact that they had to fly Japanese experts to Canada truly shows how passionate they are to produce this series.

My grandparents were born over 100 years ago and have since passed away, but I still remember the beauty of the bows and greetings of Japanese adults 50 years ago. When guests arrived, they would be ushered into the guest room of their house, where they would bow and chat for a few minutes, exchanging seasonal greetings and words of appreciation. When the guests left, they would bow again and say their goodbyes, and then bow until they were out of sight, outside the gate. Even as a child, I thought it was a beautiful sight.

You can tell Shogun was a passion project through the sheer amount of dedication they put into this piece. Most people wouldn’t even notice or care about the right way to bow or walk but these guys did and it really helps create a great show!

Ive always noticed how Mariko never looks any of her male samurai associates in the eye while speaking. It always looks like shes looking them just below the mouth or chin as a sign of respect. Such great detailing in this show❤❤
@weaviejeebies5 ай бұрын
With a very soft eye focus, regardless of the assertive thing she might be saying. It reminds me of how people look when they're musing to themselves out loud about something, or trying to access their memory intently. There's never, ever a glare. Not even discussing life and death threats in an extremely tense situation. It shouts dignity, self-discipline, and complete seriousness, without making these fights seem particularly personal. All business.
Every 👏🏻 single 👏🏻muscle 👏🏻 twitch 👏🏻 is done to perfection....amazing direction...acting ... beautifully captivating storyline ❤❤❤ Shōgun really caught the essence of feudal Japan ❤

The series should have been two seasons. It had enough material to make a second season. I read the book back in the 80s, and I thought back then that there's no way it could be turned into a movie. What I didn't know at the time was that it had already been filmed as a miniseries. The book is a fascinating look at feudal Japan culture, and its traditions. It's a book I would recommend to anyone who is interested in medieval Japan, its cultural and political intrigues

@@Yawnnznn The show covered the whole book's story, there's nothing left to adapt. The sad part is that there was enough material to make a second season out of it, a lot of stuff was cut from the book to make it fit into 10 episodes.

@thebluespirit20066 ай бұрын
It's on music streaming platforms like Spotify or Apple music and etc. But you can't find the exact soundtrack playing in the show always. Since it's a reworked/adjusted soundtrack taken from the composer finished soundtrack album. That is more fitted more for specific scene too enhance it in the way the scene commands. And some you can't find samples of from the full soundtrack album. Cause it's a new sound thar probably was made after the full soundtrack album was finished.
