Hi, Rob. I have the 4" blade version. That is a MASSIVE, heavy and large, folder. It took me sometime to get used to open and close flicking it efortlessly, as I was accustumed to other ligther and smaller folders. But then, when I got acquainted with the Hogue Extreme, there was no other folder that I took more pleasure to play with. Your review is, as usual, thorough. Abrzz.

Rob I love your knife videos always very informative. Had the pleasure of visiting the country's largest knife store low and behold the counter right at the door was filled with automatic knives hidden on the bottom of the display case were 12 hogue knives of various blades, scales and sizes. After watching your vid and talking with the sales clerks ( who all just happened to be carrying their own hogues. I had to have one, bought the 4 inch as a tactical folder olive drab with aluminum scales. I was blown away by the craftsmanship and the price. Put the nearby benchmades to shame in my opinion. Very pleased with this beautiful knife. Hogue knives are very under rated and perhaps often overlooked. Plan on adding a few more to my collection.

I had the 4" harpooned tanto version in their black "Gmascus" (G10) for a brief period (got it in trade). Thought it was a cool knife...one of the few tanto styles that could aesthetically rival the classic Cold Steel "American Tanto" style that is so great looking. Anyway, being 4" it was just too big for me so I gifted it to my son whose in the Army. He loves it. Now, dear Rob, methinks you have sold me on getting the 3.5" aluminum handled version (wasn't a huge fan of their Gmascus). As you known I've been looking for something "different" lately and this just may be the ticket. Think I may pop for a OD aluminum harpooned tanto...just to be really different. :) Great vid as always brother!

Thanks for the tip re the Spyderco Compression Lock. I got a PM2 at xmas and didn't realise I could flip it open like I do on my Axis Lock knives.

I recently acquired the 4" version with g-mascus. I really didn't know anything of the knife but bought it. Arrived it was stiff and not deployable one handed. Had to use two hands to deploy. And the edge was dull. Real dull. Kind of disappointed. But then i decided to clean up things and it became so smooth. Freefalling when pressing the button. And when i sharpened it it popped the hair of my arm without letting the blade touch my skin. So sharp. And now it is my favorit edc knife. I love it. It can easily compete with my benchmades in smooth action. A Wonderfull knife. Now i wonder why there are not much more people using Hogue. Could you tell me how the edge will hold up Rob? Comparible to what other steel?

Thanks for the review. These were offered in automatic years ago when they first came out. I have a couple and like them. Not sure if they're offering their newer EX02, EX03 or EX04 in auto though.

Well it is great that the Hogue Knives has the AposleP seal of approval (many of us value your opinion Rob) and that an American Manufacturer can get it right... :) Even though I am usually a 3 inch Blade user for EDC, I must admit that I am going to be doing some more homework (about there warranty and customer service) and looking at the 3.5 Inch in G10 a lot closer as a possible buy (I do wish they had a 3 inch blade).. :)

Yeah, I've always had an eye on those....glad a lefty with a note worthy channel was able to make some comments on two sided milling and reversible pocketclip! Hope they hear us!

I saw a video not long ago from their factory. Actually pretty sure they opened another in NV as well and now are offering more steels and make the H&K knives now as well that Benchmade used to handle. I just got a Blade HQ exclusive that has some two tone G10 think they call it gmascus or something like that but it has their version of the Axis and it looks pretty similar to the Griptillian but its between the full and mini size and has 20cv steel. They also are making the Ritter just like the old Ritter Grip. I think all their knives used to be 154cm but I think the Ritter is M390 that new one I just got is 20cv all my others though are 154cm.

Looks like a winner Rob, except...I have same misgivings you have. Where's the clip tapping on the other side??

After doing some homework, there are already Automatics and Fixed Blades available, the knives have been on the market for about 4 to 5 years... They have a Limited Lifetime Warranty (they will cover any Manufacturing Defects for a lifetime, while protecting themselves against idiots..LOL) and a Free Knife Sharpening Service for the cost of shipping only (both ways), they are looking more and more like a BUY to me, with my only possible personal reservation being the Clip .. !! The person I spoke to at their Customer Service, who seemed very nice and I was left with the feeling that Hogue would back its product 100% and its always nice to be able to get a hold of a Customer Service person on the phone...:) To me the Lock looks like a viable Alternative to the Axis Lock, man I am more than tempted to buy one for EDC, even though it is over my usual 3 inch needs... :)

Well... they certainly deserve respect! I hope the other guys are paying attention. I briefly scoped out their website and their fixed blade knives also look interesting although I'm a little skeptical about the handle design.

So tell me if I'm wrong but the aluminum version doesn't have a steel insert for the button lock like the g10 version does right? If I'm right then I feel the g10 version is the way to go. Any thoughts on this people?

"The handle thickness about 530 thousands" Only in america is 2cm confusing to convert to 20mm lol. Great review tho, I might pick up the G10 version this week!

thats the most beautiful and perfect knife I've ever seen. Where can I buy one in the EU !!!!!!????????
@Zechs00GT10 жыл бұрын
154 really is an under rated steel. On the plus side the pocket clip can be used as a survival spoon ;) Also I hear all over built tank tactical folders used ball bearings ;)

Where do you find these knifes? I've never heard of this brand?

cwrowe Hogue is the same manufacturer that makes grips for guns. They got into the knife game a while back. I don't own any but they are high quality knives.

Sekaye Gaudet Actually, aluminum I think, after further review. I believe they're milled into or from the handle slabs.

+TheApostleP alright that's nice to know I'm deciding between buying this knife or saving up for a carbon fiber Sebenza
@sekayegaudet1319 жыл бұрын
+TheApostleP To be more specific the aluminum handled Hogues have the washers milled out of the handles and type 3 hard anodized so as to have them burnish over time, the g10 handled version has integral stainless washers.

Yeah I think that many people over look this manufacturing company, but I'll tell you if you think this knife is good quality than check out some of there other models instead of the aluminum handle one.not saying it's not a bad knife or anything but it's just one of there cheaper blades.i bought a ex 02 and I'll tell you that the quality is outstanding for a 175 dollar price point. I got it from my lovely wife for are anniversary how nice I just love when women buy us knives .anyway this is the only knife that I got honed and razor sharp out of the box I mean scary sharp ,so the blade is just so nice looking there are no grinds whatsoever it's just awesome quality. There g 10 is a little slick because it's got a mixture of micarda scales ,excuse my spelling please. But all around hogue is really a good choice for a edc blade .to the person that said they would like the blade to be more bigger well in the ex models they do make a 3.75 and also a 4 inch model just to let you know. As always great video keep them coming thanks again.

Thanks for the great review.. I've had the 3.5" green G-mascus version since they first came out and I think it's a great knife. Just to let you know... there are no washers, ball bearings, etc. on the pivot. The blade rides on the raised portion of the hardened steel inserts and pivot pin. So it's hardened steel on hardened steel that gives it that slick action. Watch Allen's youtube vids about the knife's construction. There are three parts.Blessings. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bIDcZ5lvbp6NidE
