Honestly now I'm just realizing how close Kyle Busch was to winning this 500. If he'd have made his move up just a few seconds earlier he would've gotten that huge run Harvick had and be the one crossing the line first. Welp now after last weeks 500 it's like what 18 tries for Rowdy and no 500 to show for yet.

Harvick fan since Atlanta in 2001. When I saw Kyle move up I didn't even realize the 29 was already there. I got out of my chair and yelled at the TV and screamed in bliss after tge finish. Less than 10 seconds later I felt awful for Mark and almost felt guilty or cheering. What a great race and such an emotional rollercoaster

Most brokenhearted feeling as a Martin fan for me. No doubt the best driver to never win a championship finishing 2nd 5 times. He deserved that Daytona 500. Class act throughout his whole career and always did things the right way. He deserved a championship or a atleast a Daytona 500 win on his resume

This wasn't the first NASCAR race I ever watched. I remember watching others many times before but no details or specific races. This race is the first race I genuinely remember watching vividly. It's the first one that made a lasting memory and made me truly fall in love with NASCAR. I was 8 years old. I had been watching NASCAR even before that, ever since I was born basically because of my family. But this race is what really impressed me and made me a NASCAR fan on my very own. That finish is really a core memory for me. Definitely a big reason for the types of things I'm interested in today as an Adult.

One of the most memorable Daytona 500s of all time, 1998, 2001, 2004, 2007, 2014, and 2016. In my opinion
@AWC1989 Жыл бұрын
The 1993 Daytona 500 should be way on your list. How could someone miss this one??? Jeff Gordon's first Daytona 500 leading the very first lap. Richard Petty's first race since retirement in 1992. He waved the green flag too. Dale Jarrett, and Kyle Petty starting first and second. They did a special with Richard Petty, and Ned Jarrett about that before the big race. Rusty Wallace going end over end. "Rusty 20 feet in the air spinning crashing!" Kyle Petty dominating the race until he was wrecked by a sliding car. Kyle Petty was not happy, and he let the other driver know about it too. He would never win the Daytona 500 thanks in large part to this race. The ending had the Dale and Dale show with Ned Jarrett calling his son home to victory lane. This was also the last Daytona 500 for Alan kulwicki, and Davey Allison for obvious reasons. This was also Al Unser Jr's only start in Nascar. (Did I miss anything?)
@ewayne1918 Жыл бұрын
@@AWC1989 no you didn't I hadn't thought of the 93 Daytona 500. That was a great one too. When I became a NASCAR fan back in 1999 and started researching the history the 1998 Daytona 500 happened to stand out to me first.
@ewayne1918 Жыл бұрын
@JGR4LIFE that's one opinion however to me they're not. 1998, Earnhardt Sr conquered Daytona and in 2004 Earnhardt Jr made history by becoming only the 3rd father/son duo to win The Great American race, joining Lee and Richard Petty and Bobby and Davey Allison.

Also, this was the first Daytona 500 run on the same day that Dale died in the 500 (Feb 18), and of course the 3 (renumbered 29) brought home the checkers, same thing happened again when for the second time they ran it on Feb 18. Cool dude that's not the way it was stated. On the last lap of a over time race, the rule was as I remember it if caution come out after the white flag was shown the leader of the was race at that time was declared the winner. That would have been Mark. At the finish line it was Kevin. They changed the rules. Mark got the the shaft, so they could waive the checkered flag at the finish line. And BTW toyota ruined nascar.
