From the vault... Märklin Austrian-themed export models from the 1980s

I received Märklin set 2843, an Austrian passenger train set a while back and I thought we should have a quick look at it. After years spent ignoring its non-German customers, Märklin ramped up the releases of international items in the 1980s, leading to a real explosion of choice in their ÖBB product line-up, so we'll take a sample of Austrian themed products released at the time for a spin too...

Wonderful overview of the ÖBB. Oh well, the 1043 was a universal loco and liveries in Austria far into the 1990s were quite the mess really. When visiting family in Austria, you could see all combinations of Eurofima old (orange), new (red-black), intercity and very old liveries..., German coaches..., etc..., all in the 80s and 90s. Locos could be any of the universals with a mish-mash and colour-fest of liveries of the rake, lol. It wasn't until the 2000s when colours would become at least uniform. What a lovely overview 💓
