My father has a pre-64 Winchester Trapper Carbine in .30-30. They're fantastic little lever guns and probably my favorite out of all the lever actions in the collection. In fact, I love that Carbine so much that I convinced my Dad to let me take it on my very first coyote hunt back in the early 00's. I didn't get any that first time around, nor did we even see any that day, but I sure did have a blast trekking around the Arizona desert with that good ole lever action. The .30-30 has a saddle ring while I can't recall if the .44 special/.44 Mag and .38 Special/.357 Mag have a saddle ring. One thing is for certain, they are all in excellent condition. I do believe I remember my Dad saying that the .44 Special/.44 Mag model was purchased back in 1970/71 and has an "M" in the serial number. Miraculously, the blue finish is still intact too. Unfortunately, I don't know much about the .38 Special/.357 Mag version. I rarely see it, as it sits in the back of the safe in a heavily sealed rifle case. He's got a couple collectibles secured in that fashion. In fact, I don't think we've fired it more than twice in my entire lifetime. But then again, my Father has been an avid collector for decades so he knows what he's doing. Lastly Brownells Inc. and Crew, I haven't forgotten about the 1941 Johnson video. We are still extremely grateful that you came through with that "From the Vault" review. I still plan on showing it to my Father and recording his reaction as he watches it. The _ultimate_ plan is to surprise him with another Johnson rifle once he looks up after watching the video. Capturing that reaction on video would be absolutely amazing! Alas, this virus has made their survival the utmost important of factors. Given that Arizona has had such a tremendous increase in cases, we decided it's best to wait it out for as long as possible. However, I will continue to do my best towards acquiring another 1941 Johnson for my father and recording the whole ordeal. Thanks again Brownells Inc. and Crew! Stay classy my friends. EDITED for grammatical error.

The NFA, one of the worst, most unconstitutional peices of legislation in U.S. history.
@theholyduck904 жыл бұрын
I mean you might not like it. you might think its shit. i might even agree that the NFA isnt well written for what its trying to do. But from 1791(when the 2nd ammendment was ratified) to 2008. the supreme court ruled in favor of the constitutionality of every restriction on the 2nd ammendment. the NFA. the GCA, and a ton of state level bans on various types of guns and weapons. Then in 2008 with a heavily stacked supreme court. they finally for the first time in over 200 years ruled that some restrictions were un-constituional. based on a rather twisted reading of the clause where they basicly ignore the entire well-regulated militia part. So yeah the NFA might be a shit law. but it was and is absolutely constituional. and was read as obviously so by every supreme court for over 200 years before the complete reversal by scalia in 2008.

@@theholyduck90 "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." Arms: all weapons and ammunition; armaments. First off, thanks for the unnecessarily long, and quite frankly, nonsensical comment. Second, according to the Bill of Rights, the ultimate law of the land, all gun laws are unconstitutional. And lastly, even if you want to go by the idiotic Supreme Court rulings throughout history. SCOTUS has already ruled on multiple occasions that it's illegal to tax a constitutional right, which is exactly what the National Firearms Act of 1934 does. So, even by your own flawed logic, you're still wrong.

@@theholyduck90 "based on a rather twisted reading of the clause where they basicly ignore the entire well-regulated militia part" Anyone who can speak English competently can clearly distinguish the operative clause. And just to take your "ignore the entire well-regulated militia part" comment, it begs the question; why would there need to be a constitutional right for the government to raise a militia? The bill of rights is a list of exclusions of government action, so why does it need to prevent itself from preventing itself from creating a militia? It makes no sense whatsoever to read the clause that way. "A well-schooled populace, being necessary to the prosperity of a free State, the right of the people to keep and read books, shall not be infringed." Who is given the right to keep and read books; the "well-schooled populace" or "the people"? And if it's the people, is it only in furtherance of prosperity?

Marlin 93's and original 95's are such handsome rifles. I have a 1947 36 RC in 30WCF and it is a favorite. Great video.

I suspect Jeff Cooper would have approved (back in that era). Hand, effective for many purposes, reliable and practically accurate.

When I bought my Trapper in .45 long colt I was told it had been outlawed because you could hide it under a raincoat or slicker which gave gangsters and outlaws and advantage.

When I think of lever guns I think of a Trapper Carbine. Would love to have a pre-64 model 94... 16inch barrel of course. Nothing is quicker or handier in the thick woods than a short .30-30

Nice iron. I have 2 modern Win Trappers, an early 80's or later (angle eject) 44 mag and a 2002 vintage 45 Colt. Love them both, but the 44 needs a recoil pad. The 45 has just the right bang-clang interval when shooting a steel gong at 100 yards. One of these days i will chrono it to find out the velocity gain. It should not be much- much less than the 44 mag. But i can optimize handloads for it when i start doing that. Nice video

Just wanted to point out that when the NFA was originally passed Rifles also had to have an 18 inch barrel just like shotguns. I'm not sure what year they changed it to 16 inches, but originally it was 18.

Thanks for the video gentlemen. It's interesting that the 92 has a rifle style magazine retainer as opposed to a front retainer ring that is more common. I don't believe I've seen that in combination with a carbine style fore end and fore end retaining band before. Cool! :)

"Trapper"is a modern name - back when they were being sold they were called "baby carbines" The majority of the Winchester short carbines were sold to South America.

Hey guys, you need to bring back the Latigo slings. I see they were discontinued. Find someone else to make them. How about Turner Saddlery? Matt is a good guy, give him a call. This was the best hunting/carrying sling on the market.

Is it just me or does the 92 look cut down? The trapper 92’s I’ve seen have a different barrel band located in front of the frontsight?
@georgeflutey8383 жыл бұрын
I have one identical, this is original. factory marking on barrel is further back on trappers so can be easily identified.

Both of these rifles were ‘working guns’ that saw a lot of use in the field. Now you wear gloves to handle them. Go figure…
