Damien's class had been always a class above the rest, at the level of Tendulkar or Lara. Sadly his potential remained unfulfilled. What a pity! My favourite batsman.

If he were born 10 years later he’d have played 100 tests, easy.

Martyn was the most gifted batsman I've ever had the pleasure to watch and trust me I've seen a few

In the same vain as David Gower for me!!! Everything looks so easy until a lazy shot........ but maybe that is why they both looked so fluid and easy when in form. Ups and downs people!!!!

Oh to have another pair like these two come along now! But they wouldnt be learning how to bat for long periods in 4 and 5 day cricket like Marto and Punter did. They would be whisked away to learn the destructive art of 20/20 slogging. Mores the pity.

Won’t happen.. It’s not cricket any more

lol marto used to be a slogger when he was younger, hard to imagine he would develop into such an effortless timer

don't remember Marto playing many of those leg side heaves (0:22) in his career in the national side, but the back foot square drive (2:00) is classic Marto

A trailer for 2003 WC final partnership. Ponting playing under Martyn, going on to captaining him. How far had he gone. The pull shots kept coming for another 15 years.

Simply WOW ❤️! Damien Martyn batting in W.Aus helmet, Greg Blewett in S.Aus helmet and then arrives Ricky Ponting in the Tasmanian helmet. 🤗 All of them together make up the Australian XI. 🇦🇺❤️. Just Aussie things. 😀🤗

Lovely venue with the sea in the background. More cricket grounds should look like that.

wonder if this was the first time Tony Grieg realised that you don't bowl short to punter

What an Australian XI. Blewett, Martyn, Ponting, Law, all in reserve at that stage, with Darren Lehmann hovering around as well. Ridiculous riches during the 90’s.

How do I know the shot was poetry in motion? You keep bowling them there. I keep hitting them in front of square !

Marto should have played 150 test matches. If it wasn't for the media and selectors
@frankmat4 жыл бұрын
Agree. I don't think we ever got to see the absolute best of him... what they did when they blamed him for the Adelaide test collapse and dropped him was almost criminal. Changed the way he played forever. I remember several of his Under 19 teammates like Ponting and Langer said that their heroes weren't Waugh or Border or Dean Jones... it was one of their own teammates in the U19s Damien Martyn because he was that good a player.

Funny how Pontings technique looks exactly the same as it did throughout his career whereas Martyn’s set up looks a lot weirder than what it became. He got rid of that weird initial trigger movement and backlift
