From today, art is dead!

I don't think anyone expected AI to hit creatives so hard so quickly. What do you think of AI created images? Is it art?

The biggest issue with Art AI is that they are trained on artists' intellectual property. None of these artists are being compensated, yet large corporations are using the AI to make profit. Some people argue that the AI are just using "references" like human artists. But in reality, they are stealing data. Human artists have to create something entirely new from their imaginations in order to make a piece of art,. AI cannot imagine, they can only steal data. If the automation of art was inevitable, so be it. At least don't steal from artists. That's how I see it.

Humans create art the same way AI make art. Through data. Everything a human creates in art is also from data in their brain. AI is actually more creative than humans. Even if some artists try to resist the more efficient AI, eventually they will get the data, as some people will always be willing to give their art data to the AI.

@@Naranylla noam Chomsky was asked if machines can think, he responded by asking, "do submarines swim?" The point is that it doesn't matter whether the AI is a human brain or not, or whether or not it can "imagine." These are semantical differences, and don't strengthen your argument. Though I don't disagree with your underlying values.

@@Naranylla At the end of the day it doesn't matter what you want to define them as, it's about what they can do. And to say humans are more creative than AI is wrong, because humans use previous data to come up with ideas too. Every idea you can ever come up with is some combination of data already in your brain.

AI "art" isnt original, which is why many people dont view it as art. No one can define art, but while humans can use a piece as a reference and inspiration, AI can only use it as a sample

​@@ConorW You missed their point. Hip hop that samples music, does not blend content together. It still uses human ingenuity, something an AI could never do. AI blends image (or even music) together in order to create. Art is something created from the imagination. AI cannot use imagination so no, AI are not artists.

Well said, I don't think AI will "kill" art simply because people make art to express themselves. While AI may be able to create an image faster and perhaps with more detail, I don't think that's really why people like art in the first place.

Yes, art will never be truly "gone". But it will never be profitable ever again. You will be unable to pursue art as your career, because as a capitalism-driven consumerist society, we prefer quantity and speed over effort, quality and dedication. That is the cruel truth of this world.

I mean AI generated art is still human art, because for it to be able to "generate art" it needs both programmers (humans) to program it and, most of all, art as a sample or base to be able to generate it...the AI is not inventing new art just because, it still needs a human to tell it what to do, as of now AI is just a tool, a new tool to create things, just as when the camera was invented it will take art to new horizons.. Also if you try to "sue" an AI for "copying" other's art, then it will affect all the art industries, because every piece of art is a reference to something before it... The technology is still new, as soon as it's set as a mainstream, laws will emerge, is just a matter of time...

The part about not asking permission por using art to train the AI is really sad adn wrong, However I would consider AI art to be art as it generates the same emotions to me and many people. I also think that artists will not be able to fight AI so they should instead use it as an tool to make much better stuff with less effort. Remember when artists said (and still say) using digital tools like Photoshop is not art? Same is happening here. Evolution.

AI art is a replacement. Not a "tool." There will be no need to hire experienced artists if nothing is done. Those years will be for nothing.
