As a seamstress/woodworker/crafter- I’m delighted to see that you used decent scissors to cut your fabric. I will also be stealing your bandsaw foam cutting method from now on instead of my electric knife approach. For any future iterations consider pool noodles to thread onto your octagon structure and then glue the sheet foam to the noodle as it will stick easier. LOVE the end result!
@wrendellajoens39843 ай бұрын
yes: pool noodles ftw! I've never used a pool noodle in a pool. ;-)

Thank you! I did my best. And I definitely thought about pool noodles, maybe I'll give it a try on something in the future.

Beautiful piece, as always! Jigsaw with a soft materials blade is also great for cutting foam. Also, it looked like you used 1/4" batting. 1/2 batting might've helped smooth out the edges a bit more.
@D-B-Cooper3 ай бұрын
Be sure to use silicone on the blade or you may have a disaster. Can’t beat a foam saw.

Love all the moons. My immediate thought with the end caps was that you could’ve done a lunar progression with light and dark shapes across them (similar to PRS pearl dots). BONUS MOONS!

Not only is the build awesome, you totally nailed the soundtrack. And not just because of the space/moon motif. Synthwave/retrowave just works well as "work music," regardless of "genre."

I’m a furniture maker but for my main job I’m a CAD designer/CNC operator that received inadequate training and I had to learn tons on the fly. A lot of where I’m at now came from using the machinery constantly and learning what worked and didn’t work by seeing what mistakes happened repeatedly and what the commonality was with them. There is so much to learn that is unique to CNC operation (chip load, feed and speeds, etc) and it basically takes a ton of time to get good at it, but it can be done.

I had an idea with that naming of the different planets: What about a sitting "chair" that is like a hollow ball with an opening you can sit in? You could really lean against every side on the inside and with like an implemented foot-rest it would be comfortable 100%. A giant ball out of wood would definitely be a challenge and I think it would be really great! Maybe there is a customer for this in the future! Would love to see the making-off

That (along with 10,000 other things you've done for that wonderful customer) makes you officially a "Great Dad"! Well done sir, I'm sure that will get passed on down the line. And do folks really melt down when you say you're going to use scrap and you use anything that is not scrap? Wonder if those same folks would melt down and scream in the comments if they realized the glue wasn't 'scrap'... folks just need to pump the breaks a bit more than they generally do.

In the '80's while sitting in a specialty wood and lumber shop reading magazines, I saw a solid wood rocking chair that weighed 300+ lbs made out of every conceivable species of wood scrap glued, doweled and shaped by hand. It was beautiful and functional as could be. The secret is BALANCE! It sold for $17K in 1986. In today's money, that would be $265K! Rock on Brother!

I really enjoyed watching your video . The chair is beautiful a real work of art and love. Years ago when I was very young I asked my father to make me a small bench. We didnt have much money and didnt expect him to buy me one but thought he could just make it. He was a dock work and had significant work skills but he was a terrible carpenter. He did find a friend who was a decent wood worker and he got him to make the bench for me. i loved the bench was thrilled to have it. I also realized early that my father love me and would do anything he could to make me happy.. We didnt always see eye to eye but I knew always that he had my best interests at heart. He died when I just graduated from college. I do miss him and I still have the bench which is in great shape after 70 years. I use it every night now to proper up my legs at night watching TV. Of course it is a great reminder of him. i am sure that someday your son will look down at his chair the way I look at my bench and realize that it is priceless. thanks for this video
