I live in Rheinhessen, Germany and this video makes me happy. I'm a big fan of our dry Rieslings and our Sparkling Wines. I love the fact, that you mentioned Raumland, which to me is exceptional, especially in QPR compared to Champgne!

Great video! While watching I'm enjoying a producer whose wine flashed by in one of the photos, Peter Lauer, from my favourite region, the Saar, another benefactor from the increasingly warmer climate. Looking forward to watching part 2!

@@AttorneySomm Next time it would be a good idea to use a clip on microphone for the other person too, it was sometimes a little bit hard to understand Lyle Fass. I loved the pronunciation of the German Lagebezeichnungen, very American :-)

This certainly deserves more parts to come! As a German - to my shame - I have only recently "discovered" the Rieslings (and Pinot noir) from the Middle Mosel and I am blown away by the incredible value for money and unique style with the (high) acidity being a perfect, fascinating and mouth watering teammate to the residual sugar! If you havent tasted German Riesling I think you absolutely should! And the recommendations given here are about the best starting point you will find in the net. For the moment I have stopped drinking anything else as most other white whines in the 15-40$ price range were kind of boring compared to Riesling. Kudos to this channel! Will have to watch more for sure.

Thanks John, great info and video. I am a big fan of rieslings and Burlin Wolf, Egon Muller and and Peter Lauer being some of my favorite producers. I believe the audio setup made the video quality suffer a little. Still great contend, as always. May i suggest looking into some other mic options such as the Rode wireless Go II or any dual mic for vlogging . Thank you for all you do.

This video is a very impressive deep-dive into German Riesling. It’s quite evident that you and Lyle Fass are both exceptionally knowledgeable about this amazing grape variety and its different exciting expressions. Your discussion of the top German wine regions, likewise, reflect your expertise and experience. Your videos are always very helpful to wine lovers of all stages, and I’m pleased to opine that this Riesling content is and should be incredibly valuable to everyone especially those who are curious, confused, or passionate about German Riesling. This video definitely quenches my thirst for more knowledge about this wine that I have loved since my first trip to the Rheingau. Looking forward to Part 2 of this excellent discussion! Cheers to you both!

Excellent video and deep dive, Lyle and Attorney Somm! Your timing couldn't be better as we literally just finished our first German Riesling (having enjoyed Washington State and New York before) and are on the hunt for more Rieslings including those from Germany. Having enjoyed our first one from Mosel (an entry level one with a Nahe village waiting in the wings), I was considering a Village/Premier Cru from Pfalz and Rheingau... happy to hear that they may be what we're looking for! Excited to listen to part 2 to learn more about Nahe and Rheinhessen!!

Thanks for this video on riesling and i certainly agree with Lyle that it is the greatest wine grape in the world. The variety available from trocken to dessert wines shows its flexibility. I have lots of Mosel from vintags back to 2001 but very little from the Rheingau. The Mosel is truly a beautiful area and I loved visiting in 2015 and tasting at some of my favorite estates. Thanks also for your other videos, especially on Bordeaux and Italian reds. I could quite happily drink with just German riesling, Bordeaux and Tuscan wines.

Great video. I just finished a tour of Mosel. I found many of the wines to have an overpowering aroma of petrol or like a plastic pool toy. Is that the reductive aroma you mentioned? Do people like that or seek it out? It was very distinctive and present in many of the wines but I didn't find it particularly appealing. I may be sensitive to it as it was so different than an aroma you typically get from a white wine.
@AttorneySomm
@AttorneySomm 6 ай бұрын
Thank you! Great question! The petrol descriptor is due to an aroma compound identified as TDN (1,1,6-trimethyl-1,2-dihydronaphthalene) and it becomes more prominent as the wine ages. Reduction can cause more sulfur or rotten eggs and blow off quickly. Hope you enjoyed your trip!

Actually its brutal hot, when you walk in the Mosel vineyards. When sun is shining. Even in sept/oct. But the nights are cool.
@AttorneySomm
@AttorneySomm 10 ай бұрын
Thank you. Yes, it can certainly be warm when the sun is shining in the summer. But winters are very cold and Riesling is well suited to surviving harsh winters. Riesling has a long growing season and historically (pre-global warming) it was a challenge for Riesling to ripen in the Mosel. The same is true for vintages like 2021 that were cooler when the grapes barely ripened.

Thanks for the feedback. In more than 90% of my videos, I do list the wines in the description. Here I put the producer's name in text or showed a bottle/label from the producer in most instances. Between preparing the script, recording and editing just part 1 of this video, I spent more than 20 hours on it in addition to my legal work and traveling for business and this part 1 was still being uploaded last night. As a result, there was just not time for this video.
