I’m half way through your tutorial videos and absolutely love them - having watched your “times are changing “ vid I want straight to this one and am soooo pleased with the direction you are going with this. Well done Joss you’re doing a great job. I’m in my 60’s about to retire and have every intention of gaining my PPL soonest - age should never restrict your ambitions. Your videos are giving me the inspiration to do just that for which I say Thank You!! I had to get work, then wife, then family, then finances sorted before I could get there thus the late start. Cheers and Good luck keep them coming.

P.S. You don't need anything complex for audio, the audio out is a standard 1/4inch jack. I do recommend recording on a Zoom device or similar, and getting the ambient noise aswell, to mix in post production

Hey - I watched your `Things have changed' video and now this one. I too followed a similar journey many years ago being totally engulfed with Fltsim 98 and doing flights, designing airports and the like. Took all my time. Then realized I was spending too much time behind the computer and needed to get out and LIVE my life... so quit the Fltsim circuit and went out and dated! Got a wife and kid and real life. Followed my dream of having a family and now many years later am looking at Fltsimming again... Wife says I drive her nuts sometimes so wants me to do something to get out of her hair. My only regret is not following my dream of becoming a pilot. Everything happens for a reason and I believe in God so do believe I am where I am supposed to be. I'm in my 50s though so too late for a commercial licence but maybe not for the PPL. Anyways - follow your dream bub but don't let either the Fltsim world or the work world totally engulf you... balance is where its at. And if you are religious - prayer helps alot. Best of luck!
@Doofer9115 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing your story Rick. At the moment, the aviation industry is crying out for pilots so if you're able to make the dream work, it's still possible. I remember watching a video from a KZbin called Captain Scott (747 Pilot) and he has a story about a pilot in his 60s who went and got his license and ended up flying 777 aircraft! So it's not impossible but I appreciate that now you have a family, you might not want to fly and be away from home much. As for myself, I'm very happy with where I am although I could do with a Mrs to keep me on the straight and narrow and stop me from being so focused on my new job! haha

Congrats Joss, Im so glad to see you join us in the real world aviation. Hope the best for you. Dont be sad when you dont pass a practical test in order to have a solo flight. The day during my test for gliders I totally forgot how to fly, I was slipstreaming while flying straight XD. Thankfully the next day, I had the test again after a few schooling flights and it turned out great, I was allowed to fly solo. Remember you already past the hardest test ever. It's the class 2 medical test, many unlucky people fail that.

So happy for you! 1 suggestion and 1 request: Suggestion: Set up a Patreon page (www.patreon.com). Some of your viewers WILL help you pay for your training/AvGas because they appreciate what you're doing for them and for the general aviation community. I, for one, would become a subscriber. Request: As often as you think of it, I'd love to see you include commentary about the differences (and even similarities) between real-world flying and simulator flying. I'm a student pilot with only a few hours in the left seat, plus a good number of hours right seat. I've been using FSX for procedural training/self-study for a few years. I hope to have the financial capability to commit to my PPL this Spring/Summer. So I'd love to hear your thoughts about "transitioning" from armchair to air. Thanks for all you do! Cheers from the USA.

Really happy for you on your bold step forward. I got my PPL march of 2018, your videos were inspirational. It would also be nice to run through the checklists and technical aspects of the aircraft in realtime as well. Longtime fan.

It‘s an incredible experience and you‘ll find, having thousands of hours in a flight sim DOES help actually! My instructors did confirm that too watching me handle situations and controls. Thank you for your informative videos and love from Uruguay, mate. Mike. 🇺🇾✌🏻👍 PS did you have serious drawbacks during the covid situation or were you allowed to fly? There is no risc up there and perfect for social distancing... 😃

all the best and have fun for real flying. i had 10 hours lesson on real flying, and i put it on a hiatus after that thanks to bureaucracy and higher costs in my country. Fantastic that you have reached this point. I was so disappointed when you missed the ATC thing - what is the matter with them? Anyhow, I'm not sure who will be the instructor during your CPL training but it should be an absolute blast for you. I wonder if the school you are signed up with already uses or suggests some of your videos as training aids - they probably owe you a good few lessons free!! cant wait to see/hear your impressions as you fly. Thanks for all the stuff you have already done to make sim flights fun and so much more realistic through. I believe you will go all the way now.... Time to donate - how do I do this?

I wish I had seen this video a month ago. Congrats on working towards your PPL, and good luck on your studies. If you're going to create videos of your flights, I think it would be helpful if you were able to illustrate the instrument readings in the video. Anything that augments what the pilot is doing, and why, makes aviation videos better, especially from what I see on KZbin. For example, if I saw the flaps settings, airspeed, and vertical speed on approach when you landed in this video, that helps detail how the pilot's making decisions and so forth. Also, I wouldn't hold it against you if you weren't able to create many videos during your training, since I'm sure that will be an exhausting process. Either way, good luck.
@Doofer9115 жыл бұрын
I'll definitely try my best to produce some additional content which helps give context. The challenge for the first few videos that I've recorded is that I haven't been able to record any communication between the instructor and myself, so I don't have the sound cues to remind me what was going on at that particular point in the lesson. Will hopefully get better in future vlogs.

Very good, considering the fact that it was your first flight .Your idea to record actual flight and put it across for the flight simmers is a novelty. Now what you require is at least three cameras simultaneously recording. One should be fixed on the panel with supportive light so that it s clearly visible though it would be interrupted by the Piolet's hand. The second for the outside view and third for the maps. Put it after editing supplemented with commentary. Is this far fetched to expect?
@Doofer9115 жыл бұрын
That is exactly the vision I have for these videos moving forward. I'm in the process of looking at additional cameras and audio recording options to capture more footage for future videos. These videos will also have additional editing around the flying, as I said, they'll be more vlog style but there'll be plenty of editing and ideas going into each video.

Through real flight training, I've learned that light aircraft don't really need to make use of the PAPI lights. Lot's of light aircraft will takeoff and land from runways which don't have any lights, so you're taught to get a certain "picture" of the runway and use that to tell if you're high or low. Also because light aircraft are much more nimble than larger aircraft, you can descend faster than normal without picking up speed if you have to.

After looking into UK legislation, it seems to be illegal to broadcast any radio transmissions publically. So I could record them for private review only. I appreciate that there's probably other KZbinrs who do but I am not willing to put my work and the flying school I'm training with at risk.
