What i honestly like about this scene is that almost immediately Cain knew what John was going to do almost on instinct. We all know full well that John always goes for a killshot regardless of distance or how tired he is. Cain should've been dead after the first shot but John chose a non lethal area to hit. And Cain knew immediately after that first hit what John was up to and went with it.

Exactly. I was like oh they’re leaving all kinds of clues and loopholes just in case. Really was the perfect conclusion to the series. They left themselves all the options for moving forward without feeling like a cop out

Caine: “those who cling to life die.” JW: “those who cling to death live” That’s is what their characters were doing. Caine did whatever it took to protect his daughter. Clinging to life. John Wick has spent 4 movies clinging to the death of his wife and seeking vengeance against the high table who is essentially responsible for dragging him back into the life he left for her. Those aren’t throw away lines, they’re chosen deliberately in phrasing and who says each. So if my theory is true, JW 5 will have Caine die at the hands of what’s her face, and JW will be alive and going after the high table in secret.

I got major Cowboy Bebop vibes from this. Killing the big bad and then falling down on the staircase with a very ambiguous ending. I really do think John died, but he did and accomplished what he wanted to before doing so, granting him peace, and finally, death. Not all of us will be so lucky.

John really did the impossible on this one, Got free once, then once more with his friend getting free with him, sad he died but I think it would’ve been too farfetched if he survived that. Though atleast he died giving hope to others that this doesn’t have to be a lifetime gig.
