I think you guys either need one very large aerator or lots of medium size ones, that is why the fish are going to the sides of the pond. You need some kind of water plants as well. The pond needs way more movement in it to create air for the fishes.

Get some solar fountains that float on top of the pond that will add more oxygen to the water. Hope many fish survive. They get shocky easily. Maybe add some well water to the lake that has oxygen in it. Run the hose to the lake. Just a thought...

Great to see these fishes going in. As others have said, you may need to put a heavier duty aerator in there. Also (whilst it won't be cheap) you may need to plant iris, reeds, or waterlilies in and around the margins so that they grow a natural barrier to stop the fish from banking, and of course, to make it harder for the babies to pick them off.

I remember when we stocked our pond when I was young. The truck backed up to the edge of our huge pond to unload them. It had rained the night before and the truck was sliding into the pond. Scary moment. But we fed our fish with cheap dog food. They loved it. The fish grew to know when it was feed time.

Driving like Curilla Deville may have made them drunker.Lol! After the boys are taking to long talking instead of releasing the fish, may have sealed their fate for breakfast for the geese. Hope some live to swim with Copper. Jami don't forget to get the special food. Don't know where your going to store the food that a pig or ostrich isn't going to think it smells devine and eat it. I'm from UK the hometown of English lol and I oppose that grammar 😄 It's not accepted in our english grammar and our teachers will correct it, as the way you write the sentence will indicate the word fish as a plural or not, there's no need to write fishes for that, so it's considered improper and useless.

The bigger fish are just what the pond needs. They will eat the algae and some of the animal droppings to keep the water cleaner.

You need to get a fountain in the pond to get air into the water for the fish, or an oxygenator. You can also get oxygenating plants for the pond.

This is correct. If fish are quickly coming up to the surface as the initial fish were, it means they are coming up for oxygen. Fish occasionally do this in aquariums, even with oxygen supply, but if it's being done alot, it could mean there is a lack of oxygen. If the fish keep dying, the pond water might need to be tested to see if it can support fish.

the bags usually have about a half hour total of air for them. Floating them helps them acclimate to the pond temperature change so they aren't shocked/in shock from temp change

Just making a suggestion...add a little structure to the bottom of the pond so the fish have somewhere to hide. Cut some tree branches and throw them in the deep end. We used to do that for our pond so the fish could hide especially when the sun was high and hot...on a Kansas pond. Hope you don't lose too many of them.

At one point though, Maggie had to swim. I hope the fish go to the deep. They might be looking for bushes and tree roots like how bass hides in that type of vegetation. Catfish are bottom feeders so they may be trying to figure out “ where they are “ . You may loose some…….limbs,grass,etc would give the fish a hiding place from other fish ,ducks,etc. . Good luck with your new babies !!❤️❤️

I love Jami and Lester. Don’t think they understood the importance of why the instructions on the fish were important though. People think fish are ok in a bag full of water and you just plop in. Fish can die from shock easily or lack of oxygen.

About 16 years ago my husband (now deceased) & I built a pond (our water source since we could not drill a well) and we stocked our pond with the correct fish (exactly same kind), so the birds would not bring the wrong fish eggs on their feet. We hauled the bags in totes and a trash can. Learned a lot about Pond Maintenance! The minnows will go to the sallow waters. KZbin how to provide shallow sources for reproduction. Each fish is a food source for each other. The catfish being the bottom feeders. Surprised they gave you that large of catfish because they will eat the other smaller fish (& frogs).

@@pattdunn9845 I agree, they do have one hooked to the wind mill. But I've rarely if ever seen the wind mill moving. Someone else said that for a pond this size it needs one of the industrial sized wind mills that's 25-30 feet tall to catch more wind to produce more aeration for this pond. It's very shallow in many places so the water is stagnant. That's why it's growing so much algae - the water isn't getting enough oxygen moving through it. Algae grows on stagnant water that's why the pond is covered in a layer of it that just blows around across the top when a small breeze comes instead of getting churned up. They have been doing everything they can to keep the pond nice for the animals, they just need to upsize and upgrade the equipment they have....which costs money unfortunately.

When fish are mouthing at the surface, it could mean they are searching for oxygen. The water may be a bit anoxic and some sort of aerator may be required as well as water plants. Also there could have been some shock at the sudden temperature change.

Maggie is not ruining the video; she’s making her legacy. I think the pond is not deep enough. What’s the maximum capacity of fish per gallon of water? If the fish are putting off more carbon dioxide than the oxygen levels they will beach themselves. You guys are amazing! 🥰
