This helped out quite a bit for what I had planned. I wanted to restore a junkyard 2003 Caravan AWD and use it for a grocery getter and light ranch worker (so my 1994 F-150 can have plenty of gas to do all the harder and heavier work). And being that I want to use the van for light ranch work, I was going to take the stock bumper off and throw together a bullbar set made from old steel tubing from a bed frame and other scrapped objects and attach it to the metal bumper frame rail in front of the radiator (the bullbars were planned out because I may end up striking some solid debris or a coyote in the road and that plastic stock bumper wouldn't stand a chance). Thanks for the video, bud! And howdy-do's from over here in Louisiana! 🤠

You should be proud of yourself with how detailed you were, calm, and didn't over speak. I can't tell you how many videos I watch on-line and I am left with more frustration. That was really good Javo. Great angles and lighting. Quick question: On my right side bumper, where the clips go into the wheel covering.. It's around 13:07 .. What if my clips that are suppose to go in through the hole, as well as the major bolt that is upside down that holds the two pieces together, what if it ripped out.. meaning there is no longer a hole there, it's torn through like someone ripped your earing out. The bumper is fine, but it is gonna slide out if I tighten the bolt. What should I do or what have you done in the past with this type of situation. Thanks!

I apologize for the delayed response and thank you for the very nice compliment on the video. I'm glad you found it helpful and informative. Let me see if I understand correctly; your talking about the bracket that you place the nut on from inside the headlight area and then drive a fastener up through in fender well...correct? There is a black separate piece located on the bumper that has that stud and the reinforced area in the fender well along with a couple of tabs to align the bumper to the fender. When I ran into the problem I believe your talking about I went to the salvage yard and took that black piece off the bumper of a van there and replaced it on the van I had. I tried to find a picture I could link for you but unfortunately I couldn't find one. You can get a glimpse of it at the 3:22 mark of the video. If you can't find one at a salvage yard you would have to possibly try adding a hole to a part of the bracket and bumper that is still good and then run a bolt through it with a nut on the other side. It's hard to say for sure without actually seeing it but hopefully this will give you some ideas for a possible solution. Thanks for stopping by!

Oh I love these videos. I just bought a 2006 Town & Country LX model I have one problem, how do I get the trim around the bottom of the passenger seat and the driver seat how do I get that back on? Do you think there’s a video for that Thanks for these wonderful videos.
@javosgarage
@javosgarage Жыл бұрын
Hi Robert. One of these days I plan to make a video that shows how to replace the seat bottom and the process your asking about will be a part of that. Sorry, but I don't have one at the moment. Generally, you will find there are three phillips head fasteners that secure the trim panels to seat base. There is one at the front of the seat in a recessed opening, one on the side and one on the back. To get to the one on the back you'll need to peel the carpet back about an inch and you should see it. Hope that helps you. Thanks for stopping by!

I was wondering something about these vans and how compatible they are in-between the different models. I need to replace my front bumper and for the one I have (2005 SWB base model) and it's actually more expensive than all of the other models for that same year. Are the front bumpers interchangeable? I also know I'll have to change the headlights as every other model has the dip in the front where the headlights are (since EVERY other model has different headlights than mine does) as mine is the only model that doesn't have that dip in the front bumper. That's OK, even with replacing the headlights and the front bumper, IF they all mount the same way, then I'll just get a bumper from a different model and replace the headlights, too.
@javosgarage
@javosgarage 4 жыл бұрын
@Kenneth Turner - Let me preface my answer with this... I have only dealt with the LWB models. Having said that I believe the differences would be towards the rear of the vehicle, not the front. At that, I believe they also have the same rear bumper cover and door as well. I have looked at these while at the salvage yard looking for parts and have never noticed any differences in the front area so I "believe" you shouldn't have any issues using a LWB bumper cover on your SWB van. The process to remove and install the bumper cover should be the same. You are correct on the differences with headlights though and that certainly affects the correct bumper. Generally, the Grand Caravans have the headlamps that go straight across along the bottom as opposed to the Town & Country that has the "dip" to the inside. So you would need to find a bumper that matches your headlamps or (as you stated) be prepared to change the headlamps to match the bumper as well. The other difference would be the fog lamps. If your van doesn't have fog lamps I suppose you could still use a bumper with them but the fog lights wouldn't function. The wiring harness for the headlamps has been the same for both models as far as I can remember so you shouldn't have problems with that. I'm sure you're well aware of this but the best thing to do is going to be finding a model that matches yours and use that for replacement. Even at a salvage yard you're probably looking at an additional $50 to change out the headlamps. Not sure about where you are, but where I'm at there's always a pretty good selection of both models. I hope this helps you. Thanks for stopping by!

Trying to decide whether replacing the bumper would be worthwhile on a 2005. It only has 43k on it so $471 for a color matched painted one may be in the cards. The work shown here doesn't look too bad now that I have had you show me the whole job.
@javosgarage
@javosgarage Жыл бұрын
I guess it would depend on some different variables: 1. Is there a good, used bumper available close to you with the same paint code? 2. Do you have the time it takes to go remove the bumper out at the salvage yard and then install it? and 3. How comfortable are you with a project like this? These type of parts are actually starting to get pretty difficult to find in decent condition at the salvage yards so if you want it to look nice you may have to go with a new replacement. If you're lucky and there's one out there that matches and it's in good shape you could save yourself $400. I hope you find a good solution. Thanks for stopping by and taking a moment to leave a comment. I apologize for my delayed response, I was away from YT for a little bit.

Any thing on a rear door, make clicking sound but will not open or close on its own?
@javosgarage
@javosgarage Жыл бұрын
Hello Darriel. Let's see if we can narrow down some possibilities for you. I assume by rear door we're talking about the very rear door that lifts and not one of the power sliding doors. Here's a few things to check, starting with the most simple... 1. Does the power door lock work correctly? If you lock your doors does the back door lock or can you still open it manually? Once locked (and you have verified that) can you unlock the doors and manually open the door? If this isn't working properly then you're problem is likely the cinch motor mechanism. The door lock and unlock is integrated into cinch motor mechanism (located at the bottom of the rear door). 2. Open your door manually and then lightly close it just enough to activate the cinch motor that pulls it down and secures it. Does that work properly? If not, you're problem is likely the cinch motor (located at the bottom of the rear door) is bad and needs to be replaced. I have had to replace several cinch motors over the years, this is a common failure point that will generally cause what you're describing. Here's the catch though, just because the cinch motor pulls and secures the door shut doesn't mean it is properly releasing the door so it will open. If it were me, I'd start here. These motors run about $175 - $350 online but you can get them at a salvage yard for about $30. What I've done over time is when I'm out at the salvage yard and I come across a nice looking van I'll take that out and just keep it in my parts box so I have one on hand. I know sooner or later I will need one and this saves a ton of money. 3. If #1 & #2 check out okay then the next thing I would look into is the actual motor that lifts and lowers the door itself. I have only had to do one of these over the years, my experience has been that this motor is pretty reliable but they can certainly fail. To be honest, if I get to this point I just have a spare motor I picked up at the salvage yard and I would just switch it out to see if it corrects the problem. 4. You could have a problem somewhere in your wiring or the body control module (BCM) but IMHO is extremely remote. I'm just listing possibilities. My gut and my experience tells me your problem is the cinch motor but the fact the door won't close on it's own once opened is odd from the normal symptoms. I did do another video on replacing the rear door on one of these vans and in that video you will see the cinch motor I'm talking about and house to remove it. It's a 2 part series video but here's a link to the second video that I believe has that information: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hWiTioKpnrJ_bqs Hopefully this information can help point you in the right direction. I wish you luck with this, let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks for the video, I have a question, how can i access to the windshield deposit? because the pump doesn't work so i want to check it. Thanks
@javosgarage
@javosgarage 4 жыл бұрын
@Juanpo Gómez - I apologize for the delay, we've been away for a bit. The washer deposit (or reservoir) is located on the front, passenger side of your van behind the bumper. It's just in front of the wheel behind the liner. There will be two pumps on the reservoir, one for the front and one for the rear. I've had to replace a few of these over the years, it's not a bad job. If you're just looking to test and/or replace the pump you don't necessarily need to remove the front bumper. You could turn your wheel all the way to the left, remove the fasteners for the plastic fender/wheel liner and splash shield then pull the liner out a bit. It will be tight but you can then get to both of those pumps without removing the bumper. You can also get to it from below when the splash shield is no longer secured. I hope this helps you, let me know if you have any other questions. We're back in town now so I try to respond to everyone within 24 hours. Thanks for stopping by!

@@javosgarage thanks a lot for the reply, it's going to be very useful, because it's strange that none of the two pumps works (when I push the bottom from the back wiper or the one for the front windshield nothing happens). Sorry if my English is not good. You're van is very clean I love it. Thanks again.
@javosgarage
@javosgarage 4 жыл бұрын
@Juanpo Gómez - No problems with your English sir, you're doing great! It's certainly possible that both motors need to be replaced but it's also possible you may just have a fuse that needs to be replaced. Your fuse box (Integrated Power Module) is located under the hood, up front on the driver's side. Look for the fuse in the location "F33". It should be a blue, 15 amp fuse. This fuse is for the front and back washers. That may be your problem.
@juanpogomez7867
@juanpogomez7867 4 жыл бұрын
@@javosgarage hello, thanks again, I have already checked the fuse box and all of them look OK, but I realized that under the fuse box there is a plug connector that it's not connected to anything, I tried to check where that connector has to be connected to but I couldn't. I checked for any free connector space on the fuse box but there isn't, so I don't know if that connector is the problem, I uploaded a picture of the connector to this url if you have a chance to look it, thanks again for your help. imgfz.com/i/ejrQ6pU.jpeg
@javosgarage
@javosgarage 4 жыл бұрын
@Juanpo Gómez - I'm sorry but initially I don't know what that connector is for. I'm 95% certain it is not related to the fuse box, it's not the right size. If it were me at this point I would get access to the two pumps and then take my electrical meter to make sure I'm getting voltage to the pumps when they are activated. This is the best way to see if your problem is the pumps or electrical. I hope this makes sense but I like to start at the end and work my way back when diagnosing something like this.

How much will it cost to replace the radiator, bumber, headlights etc..minor front accident..1999 Chrysler t n c...
@javosgarage
@javosgarage 3 жыл бұрын
@MindyoBizzness ugh - Wow, that is a loaded question with limitless variables. In short, I honestly can't give you a ballpark because I have never purchased a vehicle for resale that would have required that type of repair so I have never received an estimate for that type of repair. I would think the cost would be so high that insurance would just total the vehicle. My guess is this type of extensive repair at a body shop would cost more than it would be worth to fix. I'm sorry, I don't mean to be a jerk here I'm just giving you an honest opinion. IF (and I emphasize IF) you only needed to replace those items with no structural work required, and you purchased the parts at a salvage yard and did the work yourself - you could probably get away with about $350-$400. I can't stress enough though that there are a ton of variables and safety issues here that I can't begin to cover here. I would possibly start with getting an estimate from a body shop to see what they believe needs to be replaced to get your van going again. Then you could decide if it's worth it to have the repairs done or do it yourself if possible. I wish I had better new for you, there's just so much here I don't know without seeing the vehicle it's really impossible to estimate. Hopefully this will at least help get you pointed in the right direction. Thanks for stopping by!
