Front Dash Removed!! - Restoring a 1979 Camaro - Part 6

In this video we patch weld the last remaining rust spot on the inside floors.. As well as removing some more interior components.. The kickpanels and entire front dash, including the gauges are all coming out to be removed!! Time to prep some parts for restoration and to purchase some new replacements! Can't wait to show you guys the updates here soon!

That's spectacular that the steering wheel has survived pretty much intact. I doubt it would be easy to find another green one, and that wheel is classic. Tell us you won't put some cheesy aftermarket wheel in there.

I was considering throwing in an classic style wooden steering wheel but the original green one might match nicely once I get all the interior thrown back in the car. Not sure if you saw my other videos, but in my last upload I cleaned up this steering wheel and it was almost black with how dirty it was 😅 but looks 100% better now! Thanks for watching!

I know I’ll have the interior done this spring / early summer. After I finish that, a new exhaust and wheels/tires are next on the list. By that point it should be drivable if all goes according to plan lol. Thanks for watching as always! We appreciate it!

You could buy a 2nd gen Trans Am parts car for the upgraded suspension and swap the suspension to your Camaro and just replace the few parts that need replacing. Then if you ever want a stronger engine the suspension is already upgraded.

Yes paint the metal dash flat black. The reflection is annoying when driving. I would keep the green where possible. Interiors are only black on modern cars. The green is cool and unique.

That’s the plan, I think a flat black metal dash would look awesome with the green plastic dash part attached to it. Would make for a good contrast in color! Thanks for watching!

You’ll have a hard time painting the dash panel without removing the windshield. You can’t get in the very front of the panel. It’s too narrow of an opening and angles down. Had to pull my windshield to paint mine. I repainted the car a different color and the dash panel to match, then had the windshield reinstalled

I did alittle work off camera to it this past summer and ran into that issue. The camaro build has been on the back burner for me here recently but I hope to get back on it here soon! I have a solution I’m going to try for the front metal piece of the dash that doesn’t involve removing the windshield, I just hope it works. Yes I plan on painting the plastic pieces and using vinyl dye to clean up the seats if necessary. I have alot of new interior pieces ready to install.
