Hey Hannah, you can do a white wash over the back of the Doors or completely paint them black .. for the sliding Doors, you Can spray paint them to go with the front doors have a good day ✌🏻

I think you should paint the inside of the front door black lacquer and add a kick plate at the bottom. That way your back French doors will match giving it a uniform look. The house looks fantastic. It’s touching how you and your husband work as a team.

Have you thought about adding trim to the front doors to give them some dimension and depth? You could do the same trim as you did on the kitchen cabinets to tie it all together.

Leave the front doors! I think they look really good with that stain. Also I think a window instead of doors by the front door . To many doors on one wall, that would bug me ! Love the way the house is coming together !

What a treasure Jaylon is to put the work in on his house to make it what you both want. Even if something you try doesn’t work out quite the way you intended, nothing is lost. I think that once you start to decorate and are no longer studying the doors, you will not be disappointed with them. When you are engaged in such a huge renovation it's hard to remember that no one else is going to be as critical of each detail as you are. Your home is turning out great.

The front doors are beautiful. They seem to blend well with the beams and flooring. I think a big window would be so nice on the front of the house, instead of another door. The two of you have done an amazing job on your home. I know you are/will enjoy it for many years to come.

The house is looking really good! I would leave the doors as is. They go with the house. And they look way better than before. Maybe adding a metal toe-kick to glam it up a bit lol. The sliders next to the front door and the ones all the way to back to the side id make thise huge picture windows to let in the natural light and you can put a nice plant there (natural air purifier😉). But its coming along and looking great! Can't wait to see the whole end product. I've been following for awhile and all the moves lol. By far great renovation. 💕💕

I have scraped veneer off of furniture and I know how time consuming and tedious it can be. Way to go Jaylon for scraping both doors! Man! What a job. You two did a great job sanding and staining. I do know that you can make paint washes to use like a stain. Certain colors can help tone down certain colors. I would look into that to try to help tone down the red, rather than using more stain. Or sand down and try a paint wash.

You guys are killing it!! The front doors look rich! I know its not what you wanted but they are far from terrible!!! Leave and put the new handles on them! As far as the sliding doors go - definitely change them out - although a nice window would look nice too!! Maybe with a window seat!!!

Hi Hannah! You guys should add wood pieces to the front doors inside and out like you did with the island to make them look more custom and give them character! The color stain looks good in my opinion even tho it’s not the perfect match you wanted. You’ll end up using different woods in decor and stuff and I think with your style it’ll all come together once everything’s done and decorated! Love everything so far!

I like the doors darker. It makes your walls pop. Nice job. I think your idea for the sliding door next to that being switched to a window is a smart idea. I can't wait to see that. I think the wood on the kitchen island/counter looks great! Nice touch. And the stools are nice. I agree that they might be better a darker color. I look forward to seeing your kitchen finished. Once the veneer was removed from the front the horizontal grain looks absolutely fabulous. It's completely different from every door you ever see. Personally I love it. If it were me I would remove the veneer from the inside and install windows in the upper half and not replace them. Especially since the side lights are texted you can't clearly see through them. They look awesome!!

You can get "kick plates" to cover that laminate on the bottom of the doors.

We are Arizonans too. I think the doors are beautiful and with the new house color the red will tone down some. I love the idea of taking the front slider next to the front door and turning that into a window. Amazing job you guys are doing.

The sun will definitely fade those doors. I do t think they are too dark at all! They look beautiful! They will look perfect with your new paint colors outside and inside! Great job! Yeah laminated wood is very hard to get off. I’ve done it. It’s a horrible mess, but afterwards, it looks and feels great! You will love the color! Don’t paint those doors please!!! Maybe try painting the doors white, but put up some rectangle shaped trim on the doors (the side that faces the inside of the house) for some pop on the doors. You could even paint the trim black to match the hinges and black handles. Just an idea, but I'm sure whatever you decide will look amazing. Your home looks beautiful!

Leave them for now. If this is going to be your forever home, you will have plenty of time to change the front doors. My vote would be to change one of the sliding glass doors to a window. You guys are awesome and you’re doing a great job of making this house your unique home.

Wow, the transformation is very good, just a helpful hint when staining wood. Not all wood is the same, each takes on its own colour when stained. Kind of like how God created us, were all not the same, but different. So pine board will come out looking lighter, Oak will be darker. So beautiful even though it’s to dark for your home it’s still a beautiful piece of wood. Everything your both doing is turning out wonderful. Can’t wait to see the next episode! I would definitely change the sliding door, next to the front door, to a window. The other doors go to a place where you need a door, so to update them will be good. But you can access the entry through the front doors so the sliding door is redundant. Things are looking really good.

I personally think your doors look good enough for the time being. Wait until your house is painted and yard is done, so you can make your front door the "frosting" - something that brings everything together!

A good idea for the front doors might be using a door kit! A youtuber I watch recently used them to do his front door, and basically you cut the holes out yourself and then pop in the window inserts, sprucing them up. Alternatively, you could use cut planks of wood to make a 3d feature on the doors to make em a bit less boring!

I think your idea to replace the sliders in your kitchen with a window is a good idea considering you already have three sliders on the other side of your home I think the doors look Way better than they did before you stain them I can see why you’d like to get new ones but for now I think they look pretty good especially once you get your black hardware Installed I think they look really good. Your hubby really had some patience to get all of that veneer/laminate stuff off of that door! I redid a dresser that had the same stuff just on top of it and I used a heat gun and it came off so good. Just thought I’d let you know in case you find yourself working with that stuff again. Love everything you’ve done to your new home!

I love the way you both stained the doors honestly although it didn’t turn out how you envisioned it genuinely still looks great! The stools I’d go with the darker as you mentioned it does clash with the floor the stool you unboxed. Great job guys I’m obsessed with these videos

Hi Hannah, I would leave the doors until you paint the outside so that you don't have to do them twice in case they clash with the outside. Also can I just say I love the bar stool and that beautiful patio set🌻❤️

I would agree with your leaning towards painting the inside of the front doors and leaving the outside until you paint out there. I also think the sliding door at the side of the front door would look better as one large window. The house is looking so much better although it has been a lot of hard work so far. Inside doors I’d paint and leave the wood stain on the outside. It looks gorgeous rustic out there. I’d also opt to put a window in place of the slider by those front doors. Love what you’re doing to your home. It’s beautiful.

Yes........dark contrast with tan walls. If the stain drives you nuts, you can paint over stain. I'm sure Jaylen can build raised panels and nail to the outside of the door. Large window rather than sliders.

I'm glad you didn't get rid of the door, honestly those door have a really great potential, it's only needs a couple of molding (molding gave it a really dramatic changes) and paint it (I suggest a colour that complement both outside and inside colour scheme, Black)

Sanding sealer on raw wood helps control stain penetration. The doors do look 100% better, so still a win. Agree on the French door to replace patio sliders. I did it, and it was expensive, I had two sides like you do. I did put two stationary panels at the ends oh each which was really nice and it still has a completely open feel and look. White looks good and you may decide you really like the existing front doors with all the light contrast. All looks good. .

Would it be possible for Jaylon to make your new front doors? Find a solid wood that you like and "manufacturer" your own front door using the existing ones as a template ? It would save your hundreds and hundreds of dollars and you could get exactly what you're looking for! I'm rewatching the video and that popped into my head .

We can't see the stain compared to the beam as you can, but the doors look fine! What I might do is get crafty and think of options for hiding the knots or making the door more decorative. Some things that came to mind were using strips of wood to make a design that just happens to cover the knots or draws the eye away from them or also, putting a "welcome" sign or message sign which seems popular now since the knot is RIGHT at the center where the door knob is and that is where people have been putting it. It would be a perfect cover up. And the bottom and top could have those metal plates that are used to protect from damage and would look sharp. They definitely come in silver and gold. Not sure if they come in black or other colors. Posted the first part of my comment before I saw you two working on the cabinet! The cabinet design is called Shaker style. May I suggest you keep in mind the color of the door when you pick the paint color for the house. If you want a door that looks good on the interior of your house and you are accenting the walnut, you may want to choose your exterior color accordingly! All the best. The house is looking so good. I actually like the walnut colored doors. But if they feel too dark to you, you could sand and re-stain. But since the interior have a veneer on them, probably maple, you could accidentally sand thru the veneer. The doors on the exterior almost look like they were cut on the cross grain and then had a veneer on top. They kind of look cool with the horizontal stripes. At least that’s how they looked to me on video. 😆 I have seen some people mix a little grey with the special walnut. Maybe try on a corner if you decide to sand and stain again. Also, you could layer some grey or white on top but not sure how that will look with the red undertones. Maybe talk to a woodworker and see if you could use a bit of color in your poly to tone the color of the wood. Regarding the doors, if both the front door and slider are visible from the front entry I would probably eliminate the slider for a window. If it went out to a little courtyard or something then I would understand the need. The back wall of sliders makes sense for a mid-century modern home but you could keep one set of sliders in the middle and make the others windows. This way you keep the view. And if the other sliders go to a sunroom maybe those could be the French style doors you like.

I think when you have the room furnished etc it will all look lovely. I agree to changing the sliders to a big window. You could do a nice window seat aswell. Well done. I wish I had your energy. I think the doors totally look fine! However, if they are something you don’t like and will bug you, I say paint them if you can find the room in your budget for paint! This is your home and you should love it, so I say go for it!

If you like the wood look then i would suggest veneering the doors. You can purchase paper backed veneer of your favorite wood and glue it on with weather proof glue then clear coat them. A really nice 4x8 sheet of veneer is probably $100. Thats what i would do instead of buying new doors and the pain of uninstalling/reinstalling

You two did a great job! The color is at least more livable. From the video it looks great to me, but I can understand the frustration of red undertones coming through. The dark color will hide lots of dirty hands though. Depending if the kids or dog is ruff on the door, painting the inside would be easy to always touch up. Either way it’s much better to the eye than it was before and worth the hard work!

Wow, you two keep getting so much done!! Front doors: I agree that the exterior was a veneer. I'm not sure yet if I like the stain, esp on the outside, but I would say to definitely keep those front doors -- they're original to the house; heavy, solid, well-built, etc. Down the road, you could lighten them some, or whatever, but it will be easier than all the struggle Jaylen had now. Bar stools: that one seems too low to me, and top heavy. Would it try to fall over with the boys climbing up on it? Also, I vote for only 2 bar stools there. Window: I vote for front slider to change to window. Looks odd having 2 doors side by side. Back sliders: I know French doors are popular and beautiful, but I prefer sliders bc you have screens for when they're open, and they won't be getting banged about by kids when they're open. Island: molding looks gorgeous. Exterior paint color: coordinate it with your nice new patio furniture. Landscape: I live in the desert, but don't like cactus bc of risk of injury to kids, dog, and people in general, such as when you're weeding. There are many beautiful, desert-friendly plants you could use, such as lantana, which would not be thorny. You guys are amazing! I love your updates!!

I think the doors look fine for now. When you stepped back and showed it from a distance it really didn't look bad at all. I think paint would clash more with your interior, the doors kinda blend in. That's just my opinion though :) I love the detailing on the side of the cabinets. It's gonna be so beautiful once they are painted:)

Yep, make the sliding door a window, maybe consider painting the inside of your front door to match your interior doors, and adding some beading (or routering) so give it detail/texture.

Hey Hannah, you should keep the same paint, but I think it would be nice to put some kind of trim or frame like rectangle or square. For the glass around it, I think you it would also be nice you put a film, they have different types like mosiac. For the sliding door, I had one that like that and I did a French door. Hope you could find this helpful.

I would leave the doors for right now you might like them better when you complete your renovation. One thing I have learned is to test any stain before doing it all I do a lot of refinishing furniture and have learned my lesson. I love watching all of your projects!

The door look great! With the black hardware, I wouldn't even replace them (unless they broke, or something similar. :) Put french doors in replacement of sliding in front. Maybe turn the sliding door right behind your couch into a window?

I totally agree with the others about making the doors into a window. I've really enjoyed the reno videos but miss the cleaning ones. So I'll be going back and watch some of your older videos to get my "fix" lol

I would change the sliding glass doors for a window. It’s coming all together 👍🏻

I think the stain on the door is too dark for the room, I would paint the inside the wall color to keep it light especially if you take out the door next to it. Also I would paint the outside of the door in a color similar Or complimentary to the trim color on outside. Some people including me paint the door in a bold color to draw attention to the door. My stucco is just lighter than the color you chose with dark green trim and a terra-cotta front door and I love it.

I actually like the new stain color. I think it will look better once you put a sealer on it and the new hardware.

Your doors look fine for now. I would eventually sand and paint the outside later. I don't think you need to replace them. I'm enjoying watching these videos and the changes your making. TFS!
