Front Motor or Mid mounted? Which is best? RGT EX86100 vs EX86010 (FTX Outback V3)

Both the RGT EX86100 & EX86010 are capable entry level RC Crawlers. Here I take them both to #bercc in Bedford UK to see if a front mounted motor makes it any better. The New FTX Outback High Rock will be the same chassis/set up as this 86010, but with a much cooler body!

Decent Cheap RC Crawlers are few and far between, but these RGT's are awesome. They are the same as the FTX Outback and FTX Fury. And although they are not $100m RC Crawlers, they are still cheap in comparison to a Traxxas TRX4 or Axial SCX10 etc
The EX86010 is ahead of the game on FTX, so expect the New FTX Outback V3 to have the 550 Motor mounted up front with a split transmission (transfer case)

I have the same chassi in my RGT Pioneer (has a yellow Toyota looking HiLux shell with head lights) and for the money I am very happy with it. Very well balanced and the control you have with it is very nice!

Ive just bought 2 ftx furys for my son and I, we love them. If you cut the piece of plastic off the back of the steering knuckle and change the 2 screws in the axle for counter sunk ones you get far more steering angle.

after the swaps yeah it'll be a beast, the shorter one with some front wheel weights on it will make it pretty fair also. might grab a little more+easier flex with minor coil trimming, or the good old pen spring trick if you want to fully open up the shocks to put them in there. 1/4" worth might do good things.

Yes...longer wheelbase might get hung up a bit more, but I like the idea of a steeper climbing angle.

Really enjoyed this, loved the comparison aspect. Love the B.E.R.C.C. footage. Going to be controversial and say i actually like the jeep body, the combination of lexan with a roll cage, hate the colour, but woody looks awesome driving it !

The extra low range and short wheel base make a huge difference. It will be interesting to see how that combination does on the longer wheel base but it should make a big difference and I agree the red body is so much nicer. The yellow one reminds me of those Mahindra Jeeps I think India is selling, kinda like a old CJ3b jeep.

Yes, short wheel base is good for rocks etc... I like the idea of a longer wheelbase with weight up front for steeper climbing angles. You are right about the jeep... looms like a cheap jeep copy :)

Not many front motor RC, I can remember my old Tamiya Mondeo Touring car being front motor and front wheel drive, oddly enough it was bloody quick for just a stock 540.

First time at crawling, and bought a RGT EX86110, the longer one front motor. I want to make something like... game changer. Low cost high performance crawler runing 3S. In the future maybe should adapt aliexpress portalf for SCX10 axles.... Hoping it to be hard enought, but can help lot of people to go inside crawling.

Great video and test. BTW please can you tell me what are the wheel bases of each are (axle centre to axle centre)? Also how do these two chassis and the electronics compare to the FTX Outback Hi-Rock 4x4 chassis? That seems to work well SFTB and has decent electronics, RC and hardware.

he had it just barely shy of 70 degrees if I remember correctly. it was B-1 frame with a C-14 cab, rear springs made about rigid, battery low off front bumper.

63% on the front axle is pretty much ideal. Did so on my Absima Yucatan and it's pretty much unstoppable

I mount my hard case 5200 Mah lipo between the motor and reciever box on the Fury with a portal axle on the front, different truck.

Those are basically HSP, now called rgt/ ftx whatever, the parts are the same, just had a lipo instead of those heavy nimhs and it improve much much better

the body is overall pretty good, the front grill kinda lacking for being stamped so flat. might be another 1/10 Jeep grill the right size to swap in, or rework existing.

The RGT pickup is the best of the line up. It's the RGT Pioneer but basically the FTX Outback Hi-Rock. Longer wheelbase and can stick the battery tray over the centre transfer box straight out of the box. Can't on the jeep because of the low body and interior for a driver.....

I really want to get the RGT Pro crawler with all the carbon and aluminium upgrades and swap out the steering arms for the aluminium upgraded FTX Hi-Rock ones to get the amazing steering angle. That would make a brilliant kit and also pretty cheap.......Can't justify it though I've got a TRX4 Sport which is absolutely top class!! Keep up the good work 👍👍

I just bought the same jeep and LOVE it the best for the price I've found . I'm 61 and have had a few this one is the cats ass it runs for about a hour without headlights . I added a aftermarket winch on the front for a little extra weight lifted the front one hole its a blast

I like them both, the Pioneer has a longer wheelbase, so is a bit more stable climbing, but the shorter JK is a bit more 'nimble' crawling
