Front Mount Distributor FORD tractor Tune up Points Condenser plugs and wires

Installing my new parts on my 8n, trying to get it running after years of sitting in a barn! Showing how to set the Points and installing new coil, plugs and wires on the hateful front mounted distributor! Unless something is drastically worn out, the distributor engagement slot and tabs are offset just enough that it only goes one way, the right way. Henry Ford thought about simple farmers like me and made our lives easier in every aspect of his machines. Now I have heard of enough wear to make them fit wrong, but it was from a guy that never touched an N, he only "heard" as well. I asked a mechanic friend that has decades of experience at a Ford and New Holland dealership about it, he says he's never seen one so worn it would bolt up 180 out. My 8N and 2N only go one way. Thank you for the video! They are sweet little tractors, they aren't smoke belching diesel stump pullers, but for pulling wagons and grading driveways they are hard to beat, quiet and nimble.

I didn’t know that, I was always told the old wise tale that they would fit both ways. I always make sure I put it back the way it came out, I never tried it the other way. But now that you say that I don’t doubt for a minute you are right, I can definitely see ford making it a one way job! Thanks for sharing and thanks for watching!

I think I’m going to go with a new one, possibly a used one. I’m looking at buying a couple parts tractors if one of them has a good rad it will be a easy choice to buy them!
