Adam, the zip ties are a great idea--this way my wife does not have to help me as without the zip ties I would need 4 hands. Thanks, and my long suffering wife of 43 years thanks you too. Chris/Colorado/USA

A massive thanks for this video, you gave me the confidence to have a crack at this myself! No way could I have done it without a nut splitter, neither the top or bottom nuts would budge.

Thanks for the video. It certainly explains it well. Can you do a video replacing the rear shocks as I understand that this process is not so straightforward.

The top of the shocker piston has two flats for using a spanner, or a pair of grips to allow you to undo the mounting nuts.

Adam- I get a kick out of your channel. Because I can not afford to have a mechanic work on my 1991 XJ-S, I have relied on your thoughtful video's for instruction on doing for myself. Know that you are absolutely correct about the need for the nut-cracker tool. I can attest that even though one can get a wrench on those stupid double nuts, with considerable effort, in the end turning them only spins the plunger within the shock and no progress can be made. So...I ordered out the tool suggested and found that I had wasted a sum buying a tool too big for the job. (K Tool International KTI70715 Universal Nut Splitter). Would you so good as to describe or list the actual tool you used?

I recommend the Boge shocks that I used in this video. They are are close to the Jaguar original as you can get. They are not too firm at all and are just like the original. They are parts number CAC9089B from SNG Barratt. www.sngbarratt.com

Thank you! I'm based in Sweden with an XJS too. Monroes are good. Both them and Boge are original spec

Always when I change shocks, I use rust converter and grease. This stops corrosion early. I think this car needs a some more work. The front axle looks a bit neglected. All the rubber parts should be replaced. And them, I will drive better than a lot new luxury cars.

Those top wishbone bushes might not have play but they rust up inside and cause wear. Use a air gun on the nuts.
