Great harvest! Wow, your strawberry guava tree is loaded with fruits! Great weight on the dragonfruit too 👍. I really need to try and do more with my dragonfruit plants, I definitely need to build a structure for them to climb up. I hope your bananas ripen up soon 🤞

Hi Peter, yes the strawberry guava is very hardy and prolific when established, My Grandma had a volunteer one in her vegie patch a long time ago that was prolific also. The dragonfruit could go well for you because they are well suited to pot culture and could be put in a greenhouse. My friend Neil from 'cool climate tropical fruits' has them fruiting in a greenhouse currently and it gets very very cold where he is in Canberra. He is also fruiting a potted banana. Cheers

@@UrbanBounty I am tempted to plant either a strawberry or lemon guava in the ground and cover it to protect it from the frost like Brett has done. Yes, I have seen Neil's dragonfruit and banana plants, it's very impressive what he can grow. Yeah, I believe it can get colder in his location than it does here at times, which I find so strange, but I guess it's because of the altitude.

Fantastic harvest! I always like seeing your very organized yard with almost all space used for food growing

Thanks heaps mate! If I had more room I dont think I could ever stop planting new things 🤣

@UrbanBounty I don't have space but still keep ending up with more trees lol

Some great harvests, just goes to show the crucial difference year round temperatures only 3c or 4c warmer would make to us here 🤪
@UrbanBounty7 ай бұрын
Just that little bit more temp or a greenhouse. Neil currently has fruiting bananas and dragonfruit and he is in a much colder zone than me in canberra. I think he's already had a few below zero nights

Nice, that is a bounty of Fuyu persimmons I think you have there 👍 I got 6 good size Jiro fruits this season which was harvest only a couple of weeks ago and not a bad effort given I had only purchased the advance size tree last year!

Gday mate, thanks. Yes the persimmons really are great trees to have! 👍

Interesting that neither the fruit flies nor the birds hardly touch your strawberry guavas and persimmons 🤔

I've been very proactive in control and fruit disposal and not many in my neighbourhood are growing fruit trees which would help. I'm a bit further south (away from equator) than most other youtubers too. It could only be a matter of time but I hope not.

Salivating looking at those guavas! I'm thinking about getting some persimmons too! I have a random question to ask, I want to utilise my front yard too and am trying to figure out the best approach to do it so it doesn't look like a jail! The sort of fence you have with the slits/spaces in between, does it give you a good balance of protection/privacy and sunlight? Also, what kind of spacing did you go with
@UrbanBounty5 ай бұрын
Hello, great questions and I asked myself these questions too. As far as sunlight goes I wouldn't worry about fence height because it is so close to the plant you will always get overhead sun exposure. The main reason I built the fence was to block the wind so my 5ft fence serves that purpose very well and once the wind was blocked the trees were able to grow above fence height and once above fence height they were hardy against the wind. My spacing is tight but it has worked out well. Most plants are around 1.5m apart and pruning ensures they are ok with that. All prunings are returned to soil under the trees. Already we cannot eat all tge fruits at this current tree size so the spacing is ok and now we encourage vertical growth anyways. Cheers 😀

That makes sense, the wind last few weeks up here has been hectic, thought for sure some things would snap! I think I want to try do 1.5m-2m spacing too and try keep things under control..mostly to just fit all the potted stuff I have 😅 Thanks for the reply and insight
