Thanks for this. Q: If you have single sided hearing loss (or deafness) then your brain continues to hear and process all sounds via the good ear. If the brain can process & understand sounds fine, and the CI serves as an alternative to "nerve" loss to the cochlear, why can't the brain process & understand the CI signals as effectively after 10 years or more of hearing loss; compared to less than 10 years? Does the nerve to the brain die after 10 years? If so, is there surgery to replace with some sort of artificial nerve like the CI electrodes? Thanks.
