I once saw a KZbin video where the host explained that the stalemate & ultra partisanship we see in the Congress today really began in 1995 when Newt Gingrich became the House Speaker. Prior to 1995, we saw a lot more compromise between the parties in the Congress, especially if the President was from the opposite party as the 1 that controlled the Congress. But once Gingrich became Speaker, as he himself once admitted, his primary goal was to prevent Clinton from passing anything to hurt his chances of getting re-elected & led a bunch of (mostly non-serious) investigations into Clinton & other high ranking Democrats. Whenever the President is from 1 political party but the Congress is controlled by the other we have seen this happen with all 5 Presidents since 1995.

One of American society's most significant problems is that so many Americans sincerely believe that America has a Class System. Of course it does not, and it could never have. The belief in a fictional Class System leads to a special kind of neurosis and a paranoia which Trump seems to suffer from in extreme. It's highly amusing to watch him so desperately aspiring to join this fictional Class; and even funnier watching the ones who believe they are in it; denying him. Gingrich delights in the chaos he helped create - he probably prays for a MAGA dictatorship in America. Gingrich forgets that Trump - the chameleon - was once a Democrat - Gingrich talks about Trump like he is a true conservative but he has shown he would do anything for power - just like the pessimistic Gingrich. Trump doesn't like his supporters, he's uses them and calls them 'basement dwellers'. Listen to him talk with Elon Musk - the two laughing about how Elon crushes his workers or how Trump joyfully bragged about giving his wealthy chums huge tax breaks. That's not the ingredients of a healthy leader or supporter of a healthy society. Ronald Reagan was nothing like Gingrich and Trump - not at all - he was a real Leader - Reagan respected democracy, the rule of law, the constitution and so on. He never fondled the flag like Trump does, he accepted his lossed and owned his mistakes, he didn't put America down or attack the military or the Capital and he would have never stacked the Supreme court. No Gingrich and Trump are nothing like Reagan. Like Trump, Gingrich only sees Trump as golden, can do no wrong, only sees him as a victim, never a pathalogical liar. But when you look at Trump's disgraceful behaviour, his crimes, transactionalism and distain for American institutions you can see what Trump's America will become - diminished, deceptive, weak and hollow just like the dictatorships he loves.
