I Think Your Frontosa's Look Excellent Sir. I just recently set up a 150 Gallon Bow Front Aquarium. And I got 11 Frontosa Cichlids. I always wanted a Colony of Frontosa's and now I have them. You are My Inspiration keep on doing what you do

I agree with you about the breeding, it’s more about maturity rather then size when it comes to Frontosa. And they definitely need practice to get it right. In my experience as females and males breed more they get better at it. As a female learns how to breed her clutches will get bigger and be more successful. I’ve recently lost my mature breeding female☹️ but the last clutch I got from her had over 40 fry. I always strip the female, in my experience the success rate when I strip is close to 100% survival. I don’t have another tank to put the female into to let her spit the fry naturally but that would be cool to see. Anyway great video and great topic! 👍✌️

Great info. What's the youngest or smallest sized Fronts that you've seen breed? Very interesting.

Would it be a good idea to have a 75g for you're female to release her fry in. So move her to the release tank then move here back to the main tank would there be a problem with existence with the alpha male. If she has been away for 2 ore 3 weeks.

Usually not but all fish are different!

I would agree, its age not size. My Frontosa are all a very similar age. When they first began to breed it was one of my smaller females that was the first to produce young. As for stripping or naturally releasing, I used to strip and tumble but now I just allow the females to hold and release naturally. There seems to be no predation. I have three females that usually end up all holding at the same time more or less. I enjoyed your video and I liked your T shirt....The boars head is on my city's coat of arms 😊 Bradford, West Yorkshire, England.

At what age can you begin to expect them to begin breeding, 2, 3 ... 5 years of age?
@RickyKenerlyCichlids6 жыл бұрын
Some frontosas mature faster and slower than others but I believe they can begin to breed from 2 to 3 years old!

Am curious as to where you got these great cichlid caves?
@RickyKenerlyCichlids6 жыл бұрын
They are Penn Plax Deco caves! You can get them at a lot of fish stores and online retail businesses. I purchased an all size set from Kensfish.com. If you want to breed your fish or decrease aggression they are amazing! If you want them for frontosas I would purchase multiple sets of the XL size!

All my fronts stay on one side of the aquarium. Do you know why & how I can get them to swim around their whole aquarium?
@RickyKenerlyCichlids5 жыл бұрын
It could be how you have it scaped, the lighting, or how the flow of the water 💧 is going!

Frontosa Cichlids And More Ok, I changed the scape..... I think it’s working because they’re starting to go to the other side of their aquarium. They’re swimming around as if it’s their first time in the tank ! ....... thank you 👍🏾

Is it possible for them to have brood without being fertilized by a male?
@RickyKenerlyCichlids5 жыл бұрын
The eggs could be sterile if they are just starting to breed! Or the male doesn’t do the spawn dance correctly!

I appreciate the info. Friend of mine has a Frontosa that regardless of being in a tank by itself for 2 years has given babies in tge tank with it now. Ever heard of such a thing?
