its weird how the concerts shots in the 90s have more quality than those recent decades of mc😄
@biggityboggityboo877526 күн бұрын
It's because right around the mid 90s they were transitioning from film to digital cameras. The original film cameras actually capture in HD/HD+ quality although at the time TV and VHS could not support it so it was transferred to standard definition. Media at the time would have been low quality as a result and this is reflected in older copies of this concert. However if the original tapes still exist you can go back and transfer it again but this time into HD. I am assuming that's what's happened here. The newer digital cameras captured natively at lower quality than the older film cameras however they were a lot smaller, lighter, easier to use, and easier to master with because there was no film. It was straight to the PC via digital transfer for editing. TV at the time was still low definition so you didn't notice the lower quality of the digital cameras. So if MCs next concerts were filmed digitally on the lower quality digital cameras you'd definitely notice today. A prime example of this is with Star Trek The Next Generation and Star Trek Voyager. The next gen was done with older film cameras and has been transferred to digital a second time for HD+. Voyager was shot on the digital cameras so that's impossible to do. If you're able to look at modern streaming of both you can easily see how much better the next generation looks even though it was filmed many years before.

Once she settles in, she just starts playfully serving us gorgeously creative runs and ad libs with a comfort and delicate ease that shows she's totally in the zone and really enjoying herself. It's an absolute joy to watch and listen to. And it's a delight to hear her earlier hits sung by Daydream-era Mariah, by which time she had developed an extraordinarily singular, unique vocal style ❤

FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!! Best performance of it; right here!
*Thank you Front Row, you legends!* It’s so weird to realise (if you’ve read her memoir) that it wasn’t too long prior to this that she even knew she was THAT famous. Tommy had cameras & audio all over their house, she had no privacy, he hid any newspapers or magazines / media from her (as well as exiting stages via back doors so she wouldn’t see fans crowded for her, she only ever saw the small tv show audiences & MTV Unplugged etc.), & thus why it took so long to get her touring in the first place, during her prime years. He didn’t want her to know she was in her prime years, & could have easily toured right from the beginning, but he wouldn’t let her. That’s also linked to why she was robbed of any Grammys in ‘96, (Tommy being powerful & the head of Sony, power pays with those votes), and they’d already separated by that point, & he started really questioning who she was writing the songs on Butterfly about after that (Derek Jeter). Even her trying to finish up her contract, he wouldn’t let the MTV Unplugged album be included in that. Watching this makes me think that this was the one of the first & few times she was realising she was an international superstar, and how surreal that must have been to her playing sold out 150k capacity shows in Japan, after years of being trapped in their mansion or a studio, not allowed to go anywhere without his permission & entourage. Not drinking, not eating what she wanted to, not wearing what she wanted to, & Tommy basically shaming her for wanting to work with black artists (be it collabs, her image, her music, the bands, the choirs, the dancers - when she herself is half black). No wonder she looks so happy & full of life here, she finally knew what she meant to people. I hate Tommy for robbing her of that for all the prior years, & still trying to sabotage her long after their divorce. All of those years, not knowing the incredible effect her hard-earned music legacy was having on people. Can you imagine not knowing how many people might not be here right now bc of her? How much she helped the mid 90s AIDs community w songs like One Sweet Day? Being seen as the “white girl”, but fighting like crazy to have African American talent represented in her music & choirs in live shows? Helping war veterans and their families w songs like Hero? Being one of the pioneers of remixes & combining the pop & hip-hop/rap genre? She did it all by herself, writing, composing, and co- producing many of these while she was still finishing high school. This is way more than just concert footage. It’s a piece of history in music, and it’s when Mariah knew she was *THE Mariah Carey.* Thank you Front Row for sharing this, it’s amazing, but it also symbolises one of the worst chapters of her personal life starting to end, being free, finally knowing she can leave him, and she deserves all the praise for not just her talent, but for never letting her fans see that stress. ❤🦋 Final thoughts: Mariah, you are one classy lady, *and F you, Tommy Mottola.* Thank you for listening to my TED talk. 🎤 Highly recommend her book.
