How to get Better at Mario Kart: • FULL Beginner Guide | ...
Running/frontrunning: Driving as fast as you can at all times to try and stay near the front. This is the normal way to play mario kart, but your items will be worse on average, and you will be susceptible to attack items like red shells, green shells, fire flower, boomerang, bananas.
Bagging: waiting near last place for good items (bullet bill, shock/lightning, star, golden mushroom, mushrooms) and using them to make a comeback. This lets you get to 10 coins and stay away from attack items, and you can potentially dodge the shock or do item smuggling.

One thing I noticed between the two vids-You got way more 1st finishes front running versus bagging, but you consistently finished at the top of the pack bagging. It's like front running you're either 1st or in the back. Bagging you're at least garunteed a top placement, which is weird for a strat that seems inconsistent in nature.

Both are difficult in their own way. Frontrunning requires you to make fewer mistakes, but also fewer decisions. It's an execution test of 1 skill. Bagging involves more decisions and knowledge, AND you still need to know how to frontrun. However it's more lenient to mistakes. Overall I say bagging is more difficult because of the number of skills needed, and higher skill ceiling.

I feel like after 10k VR the game just puts everyone in the same pack. I'm at around 17k right now and I often play with 2 or 3 max VR players depending on the time. On my lunch break, which is midnight in Japan, there are the tryhard japaneses, and at around midnight for me there are the western players. During the day if I squeeze in some mario kart time there are usually 12k VR players at most.
