TAOC36A - This premium threshold combines a heavy gauge aluminum exterior with an elegant oak interior. A simple screw adjustment will raise or lower the oak segment to provide maximum weather sealing potential.
Update - tweaked the audio. Should be easier to hear now.

I just replaced this type of threshold. Not as difficult as everyone said it is. But you do have to have the right tools. First thing I did was cut the caulking under door jams with a plunge cutting saw. Second was to use a metal cut off blade in an angle grinder and make three cuts through the aluminum. 1 in the center.1 at each end about 1/2 out from the jam so as not to damage the jam. With a metal cutting blade in the plunge cutting saw I cut through the staples that fasten the threshold to the jam. I use that same blade in the plunge cutting saw to cut through the wood under the aluminum. This threshold was on a concrete slab so there were no screws holding it down just adhesive. Using a pry bar I was able to remove all the threshold except for two small pieces under the jam. Tapping on the aluminum I was able to knock them out easily. Now I still had the wood with part of the staples in it. Using the plunge cutting saw I made multiple cuts between the staples. Don't go to deep you don't want to cut into the jam wood. With a chisel and needle nose players I removed all the wood around the staples. Then I twisted the staple back and forth till they broke off. Now there was a tiny piece of the staple still sticking out of the wood of which I grinded off with angle grinder. The new threshold slid right in. Marked three locations under the adjustable oak strip and drilled three holes through the wood and into the concrete slab. Used 3/16 masonry bit in a hammer drill. Removed the threshold and vaccumed the debris from drilling. Inserted small plastic wall anchors in the concrete drill holes. Applied gorilla glue construction adhesive to the concrete slid the threshold into place. I needed to shim a little using plastic shims because the concrete was not even. Put three Tappcon screws to secure since there is no staples holding the threshold to the jam. Caulk the edges of the jam to the threshold. Install the adjustable oak cap and your done. Took about two hours to do. Took longer getting all the tools I used together. Sorry there are not photos. I can work well with my hands not so well with computers and all the technical stuff.

Not enough detail on how you attached the threshold to the concrete. Also where you calked it. More video of you two guys than the actual job.

Ahhh, that's how the washers work. I bought 2 of these, one for front and one for basement doors The instructions on the paper regarding the washers and how they work are completely vague, so I didn't even use them on the basement door Now I know how to use them for the front door. Would be nice if the instructions were 100% clearer.

I can sympathize, since I often run into very vague and insufficient instructions supplied for all sorts of repairs and installations. It baffles me why instructions are so often incomplete. I even run into poor instructions on major appliances.

You missed a really important part and that is the part of the threshold that you have to hammer into the lower part of the threshold to make this whole thing work. It's like telling people how to change a tire but forgetting the part about where to place the jack.

Is a still threshold like a sill threshold only different?

I have this on my back wall exterior door, just like this vid. The rain blew up against it on the door knob side. The water swelled up & even rotted the adjustable sill part on the end about 4" & part of the lower oak part of the threshold was kinda spread open a little. Its discolored too which makes the problem visual as well. I've tried to find a new "sill cap" the adjustable wood part & I've looked on youtube on how to remove it and replace it; no info on where to get the part or how to replace it. The screws only come up so far & stop meaning they don't seem to wanta come out. I don't want to force them & create damage forcing me to remove the whole threshold. Unless Frost King can provide damage prevention & part replacement I'd say this threshold is a bad idea for a door on on outside wall. I hope Frost King can help me with this problem.

They really need to make a insert out of rubber or something you can slide under the thresh hold instead of caulking. Or caulk on top of that that a backer board. I suppose it would be to hard to make a one size fits all to fit both length and width.

Yes, I’m having the same issue… Going to try laying one of the washers onto my anvil, with the detent pointed up, and try to flatten it some, as in theory, the width of diameter, being too large, can be reduced some, if flattened… If this works, I’ll repeat that remedy, for the remaining 3 washers…Surely, Frost King needs to be notified, of this design flaw… well… here goes?!?

gonna have to agree with alot of the other comments, useless video. Of course, i did notice in your video that you didn't take any precaution to preserve the existing door jamb and just tore it out so you could simple lay the threshold in without interference. Would like to have seen how to install this, inserting it UNDER the existing door jamb while preserving the door jamb.

This is AMATEUR at best… What sort of poseur Pro’s are you two? Cling & Clang? So, for your vid demo, you obviously had a 32” door, both for tear out, and for reinstall… You brought a 36” new threshold to do the job… Why you would lop off 6” off of one end, which totally eliminates one of the 4 adjustable threshold screws, and inexplicably leaves an approximate 13” of no adjusting capability… This “Looks good from y’all’s house” completely eviscerates, any claim of being an experienced purveyor of proper instructions… Frost King should show you two, the door… Pitiful beyond description… This “the blind, leading the blind” type of idiosy!!! Anyone reading this? Do NOT FOLLOW this video… If you do, at least, measure the width of the threshold, that you need to tear-out…Write down that measurement. After you get the old torn out, re-measure from side to side of inside, of the door jamb, and note if the measurement is the same, 32”, or longer…Notate the longer of the two measurements. Then, find the center of the longer measurement, if it’s longer, and write that value down. If the measurement is still 32”, then note 16” as the center. This will be important to have, when making a balanced lay-out for cutting a new standard 36” threshold. After any glue, old caulking etc, I’d thoroughly removed, un wrap your new replacement threshold. If it is a standard length of 36”, mark a small notation of the center, of the 36” length, which will be 18” from either end of the threshold… Now, using that centered measuring mark, open your tape-measure to an inch or two past 32”… Now center your tape-measure at 16” and line up the 16”

Lousy job of a video. We have no idea of how to adjust the threshold unless you are using washers to shim up the insert, which would basically be trial and error. Why don’t you include the necessary hardware in the kit? D- grade here.

Washers are completely useless. They just slip right off. No way to get them tight. Even flattening them a bit with a hammer doesn’t work.

That adjustment “washer” and screw is UTTERLY useless. Only adjustment it does is the screw itself sticking out or in, the “Riser” is completely uneffected!! STUPID AF!!

The washers have to be tight. Thats what holds the adjustable part up with the screws. Good luck.
@whahl

@@themaineadventure4687 To solve the problem of the supplied washers not being tight I purchased 4 Hex nuts designated M6-1.0 ($2.07 from Home Depot) and threaded them on along with one washer to refusal to the supplied bolt. This created a loose enough fit to allow adjustment of the top riser and allow even a 300 lb. man to stand on the riser without collapsing it.
